Hello all,
I'm looking to take up knife making as a new hobby. Starting of course, with putting together kits (if I get good and this hobby sticks, maybe I'll try to make the blade myself in the future!) For now, I've seen a lot of instructional tutorials about putting kits together. A lot make the handles with a fiberglass based material, but i was wondering about using wood. Specifically, I had the idea of taking the wood from some of my old broken baseball bats that I never threw away (always thought I'd find some sort of project for them). My thought is to trim and sand them down to the rectangular shape that the fiberglass material is in in the instructional videos, and go from there. Again, I'm just getting started with this hobby so not too sure....does anyone know if baseball bat wood would work for this? or would it splinter/break too easily?
Any input from anyone knowledgable/experienced with what I'm considering would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!
