Custom Handmade KUKRI w/hilt & finger grip

Sweet custom snag... I like it a lot!

Be sure to dremel a cho onto it- no sense in taking chances with the Original Kami.

Fantastic khuk, what kinda sheath you gonna get ? It gonna be a user or wallflower?

That's a nice looking knife. I wonder if the inlays are Purpleheart? I didn't see the filework on the spine either until looking closer. I bet that knife will be even prettier in person than in those pics.

The website for the leather sheath is @ Vess Leatherworks

Enjoy!

Interesting KLO.....you'll have to give us a full review. I'm not a big fan of finger grooves, and the angle of the handle doesn't do it for me - but overall, the quality of the work is high, fit-and-finish good, the handle grain interesting and the filework amazing.

Beat on it for sure....would love to see what you can do with the 440C. Is there any taper to the blade? (handle to tip, as well as spine to edge) Couldn't see any...

So your the one that outbid me huh.:p

You got a real beauty there. I particulaly liked the red handle liners and the filework is fantastic.

Good catch. Enjoy.

Interesting fer shure.:D ;)

I am under the impression that the hard stainless steels didn't make good choppers.
Wonder what the Rockwell rating is on it?
I'll be waiting for a review as well. Should be interesting all the way around.:D

Please post pics after you have demoed it. I also have read 440C is not good for heavy chopping, but many bladesmiths still like using it to make custom knives. I saw one commercial hatchet made from it so maybe it depends on the heat treat.

I have not had the experience of using a kukri made of 440C - and that's why I would like to see the test results. Keep in mind, an outta-the-box factory kukri made of 440C is going to be a lot different quality-wise than a custom made by a knifemaker.

Here's to hoping it fairs well. Please keep us posted.

440C can easily be hardened to 57/58 where it will be fairly sturdy. I'm guessing that if it's been hardened (and hopefully cryo-ed) it'll make a pretty good chopper. Hopefully the edge-holding will be the only concern.

I have beat on a 2x4 with my santokus (440C @ 57/58 + cryo) and that blade is only 1/8" thick at the spine....held up just fine. I wouldn't pry with it, but maybe that's just me. ;)

No taper per Dick i called him today. He said the hardness was 58-60 and the handle was Zebra wood.

He said for me to use the hell out of it and if anything ever went wrong he would take care of me.

He is 68 years old and a heck of a nice old time knife maker. :D
