Just finished this one. Actually, the customer wants something changed, so it's not quite finished.

This was forged from a (new) 3" ball bearing.

Steel: 52100

Blade length: 5"

Total length: 9-7/8"

Blade thickness: just over 3/16"

Handle material: Desert ironwood burl

Thanks for looking!

Very nice I like the belly in the blade. If I may ask what does the customer want changed

Philip, that is one incredible knife! It looks a little off balance with just one pin.

The handle is all Patton, but that blade is atypical of what I've seen of your work and I like it, especially the clip, immensely.

That is a great looking little knife, Phillip.

I beg forgiveness for my forwardness, Paul, but the only change I would make is that background plywood, on which Phillip obviously has been gutt'en catfish.

Nice size and design for a do-everything knife. Good lookin', too. Congrats to the new owner.

Actually, this will be my biggest custom knife to date. Generally, I go for 7-8" OAL hunters.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments on my taste in knives. I drew inspiration for the blade shape from a maker who I don't believe is still making knives and married it to Phillip's ergonomic handles. I think he captured what I wanted exactly. Needless to say, I am very pleased and looking forward to holding it in my hands.

Paul:)

I have asked Phillip to make the butt of the handle more pointed. The blade is exactly what I had envisioned.

Paul

Hi Paul, That is interesting. I just told Phillip that the butt of the one I got was to pointed.

On my next one, I will have the butt either more rounded, or flatter so that it can be used for pushing from the butt if necessary.

By the way, why did you pick 52100 instead of the W2 that Phillip often uses? I love mine in W2. Thanks.

Raymond

I like that knife very much just as it is.

I would also be curious to know what was requested to be changed.

Peter

Hi Guys,
I have the modification mostly finished. I've been juggling this project along with several others I have going. Thanks to blad5 for your patience!
I'll post pics when it's finished, but what he wanted changed wasn't the very end of the handle, but the "hook", where your little finger would go. You can see in the this picture:

that it's pretty squarish. He wanted it rounded off more.

I picked 52100 because I understand it has somechromium and is, therefore, more stain resistant than W2. Most of my knives are stainless.
