Custom Ka-bars?

What do you need done?? I'm a newbie knifemaker. I have a ka Bar, so I know what they look like. I'm in York, PA for the next few weeks for college and will be in philly tomorrow throwing at the Penn Relays

I 'customized' my USMC Kabar. Cut off the top guard, put in some crude filework for thumb traction, and am planning on finishing the satin finish on it sometime soon now that I'm out of school. If that's the kind of thing you are looking for it's pretty easy, I can tell you how to do it yourself, or I'm sure there are many people who would be willing to do it for you.

Grinch, there is a custom maker whose name escapes me at the moment but he was a jarhead and makes a very nice custom version of the kabar. I used to see him at the NYC Custom Show. Maybe someone out there knows who I'm talking about.

There are many Ka-bar (mk II) like knives out on the market. Don Mott use to make a pretty good custom copy. But there are many others making custom and higher end production pieces. How much do you want to spend?

There is also a presentation grade KaBar with polished brass guard and pommel and a nice polish job on the blade. You can get these for a decent price too. I did a few up for friends that were ex Jarheads, one in curly maple and one in stag.(no it wasn't PhilL)

phantom, I think I know the guy you're thinking of. He makes these huge Kabars with 9 and 10 inch blades if you want them, yeah?. I can't think of his name either. Besides, I think Grinch is talking customized as opposed to custom.
