I just received a couple of custom khukuris from John McCurdy. He had 100 khuks made to his specs and I got numbers 05 and 06. Not bad. They were well packed in the original wrap from the maker and John shipped them very quickly to me, especially this time of year. I am VERY pleased with the quality of the blade and extremely happy to see them come sharp. We all know that doesn't always happen. Although the last 5 HI blades I have received have been pretty sharp out of the box.

The finish on the blade reminds me more of the satin finish on my Bark River Northwinds than the HI villagers. The handles are large but comfortable and the swell at the end really makes you feel like it's going to stay in your hand. They are about 16.5"'s and built like a .... khukuri. Very solid.

Nice

Could you tell us a little more abour rhe origin of those khuks? Forgive my ignorance, but John McCurdy?

wow... very very nice ted
let me know when you'll be sending one over to me :D
beautiful pics... thanks for sharing

They were commissioned by John from Khukuri House in Nepal. I just wanted to share these with you guys, I'm not trying to market his product here, hence the vagueness of the origin. Email me and I will give you more info.

You need to get chos on those ASAP.

It's only a KLO (khukuri-like object) without its cho...

which, actually sets you up for a way-cool custom cho... hmmm..

Good lookin'.

Mike, I was actually considering grinding in a cho. I don't wanna mess with the text though.

Looks like there's room for a low one... Artistic license is called for. Many styles are possible there, like a notch. Maybe Malla-style. Or the tri-hole style; even I could manage that one.

Besides everyone knows it won't hold a decent edge without a cho. And how could you sight it to throw? :foot:

The F&F seems better than the ususal KH product and the handle is quite comfortable -- for my hand at least. The higher standard HI polish would help in warding off rust, so it may go to the buffer.
