Good day fellow knife nuts:

I thought I would share my knife storage project. I go to a lot of gun shows and flea markets in search of knives, and other treasures. I am always looking for a good way to safely carry knives that I might sell or trade, and of course a way to store the ones I buy. I also need a good way to store knives at home. So when I saw this DeWalt drill case laying around, I started to think about its potential as a knife case. The plans / design changed many times. Here is the finished project, scroll down to see how it came to be.

It stared as a regular DeWalt Drill case. (no drills were harmed in the making of this project..............)

The first task was to cut out all the plastic dividers from the inside. That was not fun. Fortunately, no blood loss occurred during this phase!!

I changed the design over and over and eventually settled on this. Wood divider on one side for miscellaneous knives and boxes, fixed blade storage on the other.

Needed a soft interior so I lined it all with felt. I used that stretch cord to allow easy in and out of the larger fixed blades. It is hard to see in the pictures, but there are holes at the ends so I can carry it by the handle, or sling it over my shoulder with a strap.

Thanks for looking, if anyone has other storage or transport ideas or cases I would love to see them.

p.s. - yes, my Ontario pilots knife in the photo is without sheath, it was a $4 garage sale find and I am looking for an original sheath (preferably used) to go with it. (love that knifes feel in the hand!!)

GIDDYUP!!

Really nice ! I considered doing this also. I did this with a large red Hilti hammer drill case to store my ammo.
I love ingenious , thinking outside ( or inside:)) the box ideas like this. Great Job!

You guys wondering where to put a knife collection that's heavy-duty besides a gun safe should check out welding boxes, pick-up truck boxes , and job-site boxes. Lots of different sizes out there under $500 and lockable. Not trying to derail ; just adding an idea. :)
