Hey all-
I'm seriously considering getting a custom 112 with stag handles, but the idea waiting 4-6 weeks for it is a little off putting. How long did yours take, order to delivery? I reckon if it's something you want badly enough, the time it takes to get it is just, well, what it is. Just wondering, thanks.

4 to 6 weeks goes by quick. Try waiting 6 years for a Randall.

The sooner you order what you want, the sooner it will be here. The wait is nothing compared to the lifetime of enjoyment you will get from the knife.

But check Copper and Clad first. They have some nice stag 112's with no wait.

and better prices...

Sambar Stag is not currently available at Bucks custom shop. Elk antler is available though.

As eveled stated,it is available at Copper and Clad with Buck's standard steel 420HC.

Uh, yeah, I see what you did there. :D Nice selection of 112s for considerably less. Many thanks for the tip!

EDIT: Ordered! Again, many thanks!!

They seem to have something they call "Amber Stag," but no Sambar. Same thing, or not?

The 110 I showed a picture of is Amber stag, a more honey color than regular stag. As already pointed out it is just died.

Any male deer is a stag. Sambar stag is the good stuff. Because it has a very dense center. Sambar is the type of deer. If they don't commit to a species and just say stag. It's a guessing game.

Buck seems to use elk, or stag, sometimes they say Sambar stag. Leaving us to believe when they say stag they mean sambar stag. Their elk handles are very white the stag a little more cream colored.

In general it only makes a difference if the antler is used in the round on a hidden tang knife. If made into slabs like on a folding knife it is less critical, because the soft middle is cut away.

In the picture the 119 is crown Sambar stag, the 1911's are Roosevelt stag.

Not sure I understand the issue with the 4-6 week lead time? It's not a knife you "need" for some immediate cutting chore so what makes it "off putting"? They aren't really a "custom" knife by my definition but neither is a Randall and I believe the lead time for one of those is close to 150 weeks +.

I guess if you were the only one in the world that has custom knife built, I'm sure they could cut the time frame down to 3-5 weeks.....:D:D:D:D

IIRC October/November is either Buck's busiest or 2nd busiest time of the year due to the various hunting seasons. I know there have been a couple of threads and or posts over the years that basically said to hold off until the first of the year or words to that effect since the lead time would/could be even longer.

Moot point now, but it just seemed a long wait in this age of overnight delivery and such. Hell, my car has been at the dealer for over a month now while they clean out and repair all the rodent damage (and wrangle with my insurance company). Never been much good at waiting... :p

My order from Copper & Clad should be here Friday. This knife will be my EDC, so I'll be glad to have it in hand. Thanks for all the info and nice pics!
