I thought I should open this discussion here. Reate knives has opened a sales thread in the custom knife makers for sale area. There is some discussion as to whether it belongs in that sub forum or not. I don't think a production maker should be posting in that section. You don't see spyderco, benchmade, brous blades etc selling in that forum.

The title of the subforum could not be any more clear in my opinion:

Forum: KnifeMaker's Market: Knives & More for Sale
A place for custom makers and bladesmith's to sell their products, as well as pick up supplies and materials. Please note, selling is restricted to KnifeMaker members, buying is open to all.

I totally agree with you. When I go to the Makers' forum, I want to see work by individual makers, not production companies. There are other areas for that.

It is in the wrong subforum. He's not actually selling anything, just posting pics, specs, and a list of dealers. Obviously English isn't his first language, could it be that he misunderstood and accidentally posted it there?

It could be a "lost in translation" issue. Either way, I think it should be explained to them, and the thread should not be allowed to continue in that sub forum.

However I seem to recall seeing other reate ads in the custom section in the past.

Spark is working on something to do about this. Without his say so, there ain't a damn thing we can do. Your frustration is dully noted.

In that case I'm guessing that they're being categorized in that "mid-tech" class.

I'm not guessing to know what Spark is going to do. If someone has paid their money, they are going to post in that section. Same thing happened a while back when some guys were CNC'ing blades and selling them in quantity. That to me is also manufacturing, not "custom". That line has been blurred for a long time. Maybe we need a clearer definition of what a custom knife is. I know the las time we had that discussion, tempers flared (like HT ovens) and the butt hurt flowed like whine. Literally.

If it's just discussion, it needs to be in a different forum. If it's knives for sale, and they aren't custom knives, then they need to be in the correct forum - in this case they definitely aren't individuals, and that leaves only one other place & level of membership.
