sorry if I'm in the wrong forums but figured this would be the best one. List your recommendations for a great custom knife maker. I could be wrong but I've heard I can get a custom knife for about as much as a bark river? 2-300? I'm looking for a knife somewhere between 8.5 to 9.5 inches almost like the gunny from bark river but with a flat grind like the ks-1 knife. If you've dealt with any custom dealers on here please post pics!

I've only dealt with John from JK Knives and am very happy with my first purchase from him! He has a list of current models and pricing available and will make custom designs as well for a very reasonable price.

For fixed blades I love BanTang's work! I imagine you could get something nice and ridiculously sharp for 300-400 from him.

This is a small fixed blade is called his Drop Point EDC...bit smaller than you're looking for but he makes all kinds of good stuff and is open to working with many different steels - this one was made out of CPM-M4 for me

And here it is today (forgive the crap lighting):

When it comes to customs, there's pretty much an unlimited supply when it comes to different makers and styles...

Yep lots of guys here that do very good work. Ya can get ya a good knife in that price range. Check that link that LX provided ya. It'll get ya going. I do a lot that size but I'm more cowboycool not so much tacticalcool, so I'm not everybody's flavor.

Yea thanks everyone they have some good ones in the custom for sale thread..I'm looking for a certain look like a bark river handle with a k1-a (trc knives i Thnk) finish. Seen a couple that were kind enough what I had in mind but just not the right steel..not sure what I want to use but I have some ideas

Oh! And don't forget our friend Charlie Mike! His IG feed has been pretty tasty lately as well :cool:

@bigkittyftw

I had to make it a private page because people keep reporting some of my more "explicit" posts... But yeah, I make stuff.

check out groniger knives very affordable, he makes everything by hand and he will make pretty much whatever style you like of his general "design style". I got this super fat short wharncliffe. I wanted glow scales and something cool so he made up this for me. Love this knife and Im gonna have him make me something slightly longer in a thinner stock.

Gollik knives is one that I am thinking about buying from. He is here on the forum and he has a Facebook and website. From what I hear, great knives, especially for the great price!!! He is definitely worth looking at and talking with. Gollik says his turn around time is about 4 weeks, which is really good for a custom.
Colin Shannon at Shannon Steel labs made me a 6.5 inch blade out of Z-Finit that is pretty awesome! He is making me a 3V slimline machete right now. His turn around time is fantastic and he keeps you up to date every step of the way. On the first knife I got, the finishing on the handle could have used a tiny bit of work, but it was very minor.
Robert Martin at tearsofthesword. I have one from him and another on the way, which he is throwing in a smaller knife on the house. Great guy, also keeps you up to date on progress. Takes a bit more time than Shannon. His blade I have is the toughest knife I have, and I have quite a few tough blades!

Another option is look on the knife maker for sale area under fixed blades here. Take a look at what there is, at least 3-6 pages worth, and if you don't find something you like, find someone that you do, and ask them to do a custom. You'd be surprised at how good of deal you can get a custom for.

1095 ought to keep price down. 52100 is a great steel done properly - check out AA Forge, the customization options Adam is offering right now are just insane, and he's offering as many--if not more--options as Bark River. I dunno if he offers a flat grind like that on the TRC K-1, but I'm sure he's open to questions. http://shop.aaforge.com/Outdoor-Knives-custom-orders_c16.htm

All the recs above are solid choices. As said, plenty of makers right here at BF to choose from as a general start to a general question - you know better than I what you're ultimately looking for in a knife. It's hard to go wrong with these guys, US or overseas. I have a hard time mentioning makers to check out without naming Nathan Carothers.

I want to try out something like cruwear( only one I can think of) something that has pretty good toughness and edge holding.. I'm getting interested in d2 after see so much of it and reading up on it
