Are you a collector?

For the sake of this thread, I'll define collectors as being people who own knife for other reasons than to use them (which doesn't mean that you would never use them).

Heck ya, I'm a collector :D ;)

I believe if you obtain multiples of anything by definition you are a collector, whether you call yourself one or not.

As for me, I collect knives, but I find myself *very* into other fine pieces of .. well, almost anything. I have 2 fine watches (not quite a collection, but it's becoming one), a few signed copies of science-fiction books, and I have a couple antique US gold coins ( I decided coin collecting was not for me but kept those 2).

I own many user knives, but I definitely have a bunch that will never be used. I don't collect anything else.

Im a user (when there is actually something to cut in New York), a collector and a folder flicker. I should have lost my fingers by now.

I don't really consider myself a collector in the knife context, but I am according to your definition.

Which watches Joss?

Roger

I collect a few things other than knives, but the knives seem to get most of my free time.

I have a Baume & Mercier Capeland Chronographe for everyday, and a Cartier Tank Americaine for when I dress up or feel like it. Have had both for several years now.

I'm a user/collector/maker. I love to use what I collect and I, sooner or later, use them all.

Nice choices both.

Roger

I'm in the market for another one to celebrate something pretty major. Probably an Omega Seamaster - not particularly original, but I like the watch very much. The Tank Americaine is the most beautiful watch ever made, as far as I'm concerned.

I am maker and glad to see I am not the only flicker. its a habit you have to be carefull with.
you dont want to flick in front of the wrong people:eek:

For years, I would buy a new knife, custom or production, didn't matter then, young and stupid. I would carry the knife as a EDC. till the new wore off, then I would get another one. Then, the cycle would start over, past ten years, I have been buying what I like and putting it on display.:D

I collect, use and try not to abuse my knives. I have those that I run through a 'user' cycle, mainly folders and hunters, and those that I have to admire and share.
Having collected numerous things over the years, I am focused on knives presently.
