I find that this has really influenced my knife collecting over time. Seeing the work of Coop and Eric some years ago really sparked a new kind of interest in my collecting. To me having a knife photographed is almost as fun as buying a new knife and lately I have been interested in getting different photographers versions of the same knife. Having images of a knife I already had for a while almost renews my interest in it. I love the contrast that appears between different metals in damascus and seeing what colors are going to appear in pearl handles. These photos seem to bring out things I don't always notice with my eye. This is just my tribute to you guys out there. Keep up the good work, as it is both beautiful to look at and keeps inspiring new collectors.

Totally agree Jon.

Quite amazing how photographers can shoot the same knife and each depict a beautiful yet different artistic representation of the piece.

They also allow many to see and appreciate what only a few would see otherwise.

My hat's off to these artist.

Hi guys, wanted to introduce myself as a new photographer. I realize there are not many that specialize in knives, especially on the West Coast. I am going to try to self promote a bit at the upcoming Vegas show. I am offering a freebie or two to anyone who wants to try my work. I have been lucky enough to shoot some for Dave Ellis and have a small but growing gallery here: www.balancedigital.com, as well as here at my blog. I try to post some new images in the blog (knives and others) at least weekly.

Hi Rob,

You have a good eye and have figured out some not-so-basic lighting elements for shooting knives. Glad to see your work emerging. Nicely displayed.

Tip: Be careful on what you may offer to others at a show, especially if there is a photographer who has paid for the privilege to shoot on-site. That's an area of concern, and your will do well to not overstep your bounds. I once offered to do some outside work for existing clients off a show site and I was soundly reprimanded. Deservedly. A lesson I will never make again. Now, I pay my way and am in the show fairly, or I don't shoot.

You will do well. Keep up the good work.

Coop

Thanks Coop I appreciate that advice and your compliments. Your work has inspired me to keep practicing.

Rob, you do have a good eye. Keep it up. Coop, your work is pretty much how I was introduced to the kinds of knives I collect now. Im not sure what direction i'd be in if I never saw those photos.

Well, you guys inspired me to "go legit" and get myself a table at the show. They are setting me up in the knifemaker's area near an outlet and I should be available to shoot most of the day Fri-Sun as well as reduced hours on Thurs.
