I'm interested in commissioning a relatively small custom EDC fixed blade but I really don't have a good place to start other than my own specifications. I need something no larger than 3" from the end of the scales to the tip of the blade and about 6.5" overall. I'm thinking either textured canvas micarta scales or g10, don't care too much what the material is, I just need something grippy. I'd also like a lanyard hole and a gimped thumb ramp. Last but not least I would like it to feature a pretty deep choil and I'm considering a bottle opener or a glass breaker (think ESEE Mil-Spie) on the butt of the knife. As far as steel I'm not too picky, rust resistance and ease of sharpening are my two biggest needs but I'm open to suggestions and advice as I'm no metallurgist.
My uses will mostly be urban things such as cutting threads, opening mail, etc...but I also want it to handle light camping tasks in the summer like whittling, carving, cutting small bits of cord, it would be nice if it could withstand some light batoning, I just want something I know could handle it if push came to shove. I don't plan on much food prep or things like that so I'm thinking a thicker blade would be nice, haven't really put much thought into blade shape. Also If you happen to be handy with Kydex, I'm going to need me a kydex sheath for a mini Tek-Lok.
P.S. I've never seen a post like this in this forum so if I'm breaking any rules, I apologize. I just don't know where I can have a dialog with a custom knifemaker. As you can tell by my post count, I don't know exactly what I'm doing yet.
