Custom knife scales for Hogue knives

I've done some what I thought was thorough looking but can't find any scale makers that make custom scales for Hogue knives, in my case, for Hogue Deka gen 2 knives. If any one knows of some I'd really appreciate some info. Thanks

+1 specifically Micarta and in my case, for the Ritter RSK. I have been told before that the hardest part is the inset pocket clip screws that hogue imbeds in the g10.

I would think someone with a micro tap & Die set could work around that. A lot of manufacturers tap the G-10 material directly and even in micarta. I think creating a pocket for the ABLE lock would be harder. Must not be enough demand. At my age I just don't want to invest in any more tools + working with small parts is getting difficult due to arthritis.

Well they'd have at least one buyer! Nothing against the starburst G-10 that comes with the blade but micarta would turn it into one hell of a hard use carry blade. Contoured black linen or canvas micarta would just be an absolute dream on this blade

I ended up selling my RSK because of the scale texture. I considered sanding it down but it would have been a fiasco. Before letting it go, I did my best to try and find aftermarket scale alternatives. I came up snake eyes.

I also just sold my Deka. No aftermarket scales available and I wasn't in love with the Compound grind of the wharncliffe blade. I do a a clip point version with magnacut on pre order, mainly because of the steel.

I have the K320. I love everything about the knife but the scales. They’re overly aggressive and sharp on the inner edges. Hopefully some upgraded replacements come along.

I am holding onto mine I love the 20cv and the blade shape and grind over typical griptilians. Someone is going to make some micarta for this eventually!

I've seen some YouTube videos from a fella who re-contoured the scales on his Deka...

I have a Deka - love the blade, but don't like the feel of the scales - the corners of the grooves feel sharp and don't really provide a better grip. The only other knife I have with these king of grooves is a Centofante 3, but it's handle is much more comfortable. I would get third-party scales if they were available.

The new MagnaCut Deka is using some sort of polymer. Just looking at it, I can tell that it will have a much softer feel in hand. As far as points and corners...

Outpost 76 did that mod to his. It is similar to one of the mods I did to my Sage 5. In knives where handle protrusions are just scale material, it's just a matter of sanding them down. You can start with a dremel to get the general shape you want and then finish by hand. Just remember to avoid building heat with materials like FRN that can melt. Go in short bursts and you'll be fine. (Also, don't breath the dust.)

I'm looking for some Deka replacement scales as well. I like my G10 fine, but the new Poly Deka is a bit squishy feeling for my tastes (I'm sure it's not a functional issue).

I'd love for this place to make some Kraken Ti scales for the Deka.

I'll probably reach out to Hogue to see if they'll sell me a G10 set for a reasonable fee.

Some carbon fiber scales with some line work milling is what would make me finally be interested in a deka.

I have a Deka with the polymer scales and they feel awful. They're slippery and the grooves cut into them don't help at all. I'd take any scale material that wasn't slippery over this. I love everything about the knife except the scales and the clip.

I think all types of people have been wanting Deka scales pretty much since they came out. Not because they have a bad selection of scales really, just because we all seem to love having scale options. I'm sure someone will come around here before too long. Someone could make some pretty decent money if they had a cnc and what not.

It's not just the Deka. Lots of people have commented on the RSK scales over the years. Options would be great for either.

I'm still surprised that Hogue doesn't just make them. A big part of their business over the years has been offering aftermarket grip options in various materials for guns. Their hardwood grips for Ruger revolvers are fantastic. Here is an example on my SP101, with custom checkering direct from Hogue, in Goncalo Alves. I wish they would offer a similar service for their own knives.

Yea that's very true. I often forget where Hogue came from. I used to work at a gun/knife store and we sold some Hogue gun grips. I go& for my dad's S&W 66-1 .357 magnum that are extremely comfortable and they've been holding up very well now for about 15 years. They could really do some cool stuff and start a whole new trend if they started making numerous different scales for the knives they make.

I just checked with Hogue & they don't sell replacement G10 scales, or any other scales, at all. Customer service explained that, due to the deals they make with companies like SMKW for exclusive models, it would be a violation of their contracts to offer separate scales, as that would let the public make custom Hogue knives without contract. I get it. Just wish there were some third party options.
