Hello,
I am new to the world of sheath making, and have been trying to develop a custom sheath for a set of throwing knives by Gil Hibben. The name of these knives is called "Large Triple Throwers Set," and has a tanto style blade tip. The model number is GH5003.
I am going to be using leather as the primary material. The design of the sheath will house all three knives in separate pouches, side-by-side, and will have a shoulder strap, or something to allow me to mount it on my right shoulder.
I am unsure as to where to buy a good quality leather that will be large enough for this purpose. I'd prefer to get the materials in a physical store as opposed to an online website. But either one will do. If anyone has any suggestions for my project, please don't hesitate to post on this thread.

Thank you,
Brian

I am thinking about starting a hobby in leather craft. I have been sourcing tools and materials as of late. I can tell you that it is not a cheap hobby. I am having troulbe finding leather thick enough to make a decent sheath. Like you I would much prefer to go to a physical location and purchase the tools and materials I need. I think the internet is going to be our best bet. I have learned alot watching you tube videos and lurking around the forum. Good luck with your sheath.

If you want to go handle some leather, Tandy and The Leather Factory are your best friends.

The tutorials at the top of this forum are a great treasure trove of information .
You don't need many tools and gear to get started .
A very good quality sheath can be produced with just a few tools . All it takes is some imagination and enthusiasm :)
Most of the few basic tools can be found in a home workshop and kitchen .
Add some leather , needles and thread , some contact cement from the hardware store and you are well on the way to success .
It only has to be as complicated and expensive as you make it .
Good luck , have a crack at it , it's really good fun .
