Custom Knife Shop wood scale options question

Depends which wood your talking about. The Oak, walnut and Koa Firewood are real wood and the blue indigo one is died and laminated. I think the cherry and orange woods are died as well but i'm not sure if they are real wood. I don't remember the options.

I think the oak and walnut are laminate as well, though I certainly may be wrong.

koa is real the rest are lananates ... i am not sure of the wood used but
it is treated and as such is very durable

I'd like to see more definitive answers to this question as I'm looking to purchase a custom 110.

I have three or four with oak and it looks like solid wood to me and not a laminate. The one walnut I have also looks real to my eyes.

As stated, call and ask.

I have the oak ,walnut and both are laminated, you can tell by looking at the knife slads from the sides that it is layered laminated wood. The Alaskan guide 110 is labelled as rosewood also, but its just laminated also.

Yeah, sliderfisherman, you are right it is dumb of me not to have done so. I've also been thinking that the laminate is probably better for rigidity and dealing with temperature fluctuations. Thanks guys, sorry I was being lazy.

Birch is the wood used for all Dymondwood slabs.

I just spoke to the person that purchases our inlay/handle material for CKS. She told me that Maple Burl, Ironwood, Snakewood, and Koa are solid wood and the other woods are Dymondwood laminates.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe.

I just received a follow up e-mail from Joe. He says that the early "oak" used in the custom shop and I'd assume some of the LE's and SP's were indeed real solid oak. It wasn't until later (no timeline given) that they changed it to a laminate.

The one's that I have are all a bit older so that would explain why the wood looks so real. It is.

Sweet, real wood is nice, but one thing i have noticed is that the laminates stay in really good shape after a lot of use.The older 2 dots stay in great shape as well,I have a grohmann buck 110 copy that has real rosewood slabs, after repeated ue and washing it,the wood is really dull and needs some attention,it has one split next to a rivet also, which tells me it isn't too stable, and has dried out.I like the laminates for everyday use its durable stuff!
