This will be a longer one, so apologies ahead.
How did I even go for a custom? Well, I never thought I'd get a custom, yet after a guy I knew bragged about ordering one himself and how good of a deal it is - it was really tempting and I pulled the trigger on it. and I am glad that I did. (Ironically that guy is yet to get back at me so I doubt he even really got a custom like he said he ordered.)
I don't know if I can talk about the maker (I don't think he is on here), but if I can, then I will be glad to say something about him as he is a really great guy and does great work.
I waited with this review as I wanted to really use the knife first, because I doubt that one can make a really good review without using the thing he is reviewing.
Handle: Just great, no hotspots and is comfortable, just right size.
Steel: S390 at 66-67HRC.
Blade thickness is about 4-5mm
Sheath is just Kydex and has really good fit to it.
Ever since I had this knife - I have only sharpened it once.
I used it to chop, carve and cut a lot, I also used it in the kitchen and to my surprise - bones do no damage to this edge.
The blade is fairly thin behind the edge, yet not too thin.
This knife... it just performs. It keeps cutting and cutting, it bites deep with every swing, the tip is also not too fine and not too thick either, the maker really did a good job here.
So this is the knife:
The steel is S390 at 67HRC.
Blade thickness
Performance in single swing:
Some chopping:
After all that it also started developing a nice patina:
Bottom line:
I am beyond happy with both, knife and sheath. Also the performance of S390 is really something else, it feels kind of different while sharpening (I use diamond plates). But it took no damage even when I chopped into dry hardwood or hit into bones in the kitchen, just for fun I cut some steel staples with it too and to my surprise it still had no visible damage. Also, it takes patina with use, just not as much as a plain carbon steel would.
I wonder why is S390 not used on more knives though, because it clearly performs very well.
Here is comparison with some of my other knives, so you have something as a size refference.
