i have a custom lightfoot lcc and a crawford kff, both of which have been turned into very nice, reasonably priced production knives. does this make the original more collectible/desirable or less so?,....dmc

Hi dmc

I would say they would remain just as valuable,, if not a little more...

If the knife is no longer in production,, maybe then the value would be higher,, but if they are still in production by Lightfoot and Crawford, I don't think they'll jump up in value much unless theres something special about them..

Having a production version available hasn't hurt the pricing on my Emerson CQC7.

For what it's worth, I just ordered up a Lightfoot LCC.

I think the lower priced production knives will make the custom versions more desirable. Now that I have used the production Crawford I am considering spending big bucks on a custom one. If the cheaper version had not been availible I would have never developed any interest in owning a custom. However, how do you bring yourself to use a knife that you just paid $300.00 or more dollars for?

I agree that the custom version would become, if anything, more desirable. The custom knifemaker and his custom knife would get more publicity than they normally would if there wasn't a production version of the knife available. More people end up hearing about the maker, his knives, and become interested in something they might have previously never known about. Ultimately, people would say to themselves (talking about the production knife), "Wow, what a great knife, I bet the custom version is twice as good..." But I could be wrong.
