Guys,

I'm in need of a few knife pouches incl. a couple sword-length ones, I suppose they'll have to be custom made. Any input as to where to get this?

Thanks,

JD

Second vote for Bills ..... give him a call or email, he will make to order, and I know he makes sword cases. I got 20 cases from him last year, price of a nice knife, but worth it.

My wife makes all of mine. Japanese sword bags, too.

If she does it commercially, then give Joss a PM.

Bill's Cases are THE BEST...I own hundreds of them.

He starts with Cordura, Black pig suede(personal favorite) or kidskin....his foam is of a sort that does not release any moisture, nor does it hold moisture....his pile lining is not scratching, and SECURELY holds the knife in place...I cork the tips of my fixed blades, and HAVE dropped knives in the cases from over 5' onto concrete without damage....he sews on elastic straps to the case to hold a sheath.....he uses YKK zippers, exclusively..he hand cuts and sews all patterns...and the work is VERY reasonably priced for what you get.

Nope, nothing commercially. Though some of my doushi have made inquiries. ;)

It's just something that isn't hard to do yourself, if you want something very basic. Hers are a lot simpler than Bill's sound--I know for a fact (though not through experience) that a knife in one of her cases would NOT survive a 5' drop without damage.

Sounds like Bill's are a good deal.

I've bought a ton of Bill's cases, they are top notch. I tend to buy new ones every few years for my knives but the last batch were "Maxpedition" cases from knifeart.com. They both seem to be about the same quality but the maxes are a bit more heavy duty and have handles attached that are convenient. Not sure if the foam is different from Bill's cases or if it makes a difference. I'm not aquainted with the owners of either company but they both make a good product.

Not sure if the foam is different from Bill's cases or if it makes a difference.

If you collect carbon steel blades, and store your blades in those cases....you better bet your rust spots and pits that there is a difference in foam.

Bill's Cases are the Hummer H1 of cases, and Maxpedition knife cases are the Suzuki Samurai of cases...the Max cases are made in Taiwan, I think, by people who really don't care if your Ed Fowler knives develop rust pits, Jose.

If you want Bill to add handles, just ask him to....as I said above...he hand cuts and sews each case.

As a personal aside....and this comes from a HUGE fan of Maxpedition products....saying Bill's Cases, and Maxpedition in the same sentence is insulting. Maxpedition knife cases are simply for people who can't afford or don't want to spend for the very best protection for their knives.....they are "good enough".

One last thing...The reason I am so adamant about Bill's Cases...is that before he started making them....there was really nothing as good...he revolutionized this sector of knives....used to use the el-cheapos, late '80's-early 90's, because that was all that was available, and my knives rusted, in some situations...AND before I started corking the tips, I had a BAD cut where the point went through the case...into my thumb.....even if you don't cork the tips, this is MUCH harder to do with a Bill's case.

Hi Steven,

Sorry I did not see your reply sooner. I've had my knives in the Max cases for about a year now. I switched to using a wax based product as opposed to oil so I haven't had the need to buy a new batch yet. I'll go ahead and take your advice though. I never had a problem with Bill's cases so will go ahead and see if he can make his usual case for me with a longer handle attachement. Thanks for the heads up!

Guys,

Just wanted to follow up. I've had Bill make me two custom cases. They are sword sized (meant for a Fogg and a Fisk / Fogg swords), and I am very happy with the whole process. Those cases are very solidly made and the process of ordering those was completly smooth. I would recommend Bill's cases for your most precious pieces without any hesitation.

Joss, I am VERY happy to hear that you got yourself some Bill's Custom Cases!

Bill's cases does look nice!

I like his cordura and zipper cases.
