I'm new here, but have been into knives for awhile. I recently saw a custom CQC8 knife sell on ebay for $541, which seems very low priced for a custom from Mr Emerson. Has the prices fallen so far? Are the other models still as expensive as they have been, especially my most desired knife the CQC 6?

Do you have a link?
It sounds a bit low for an Emerson Custom; although the demand is less for the unwaved unbolstered 8's since they were added to the regular production lineup.

6's are always up there!
Waved and Old school halfmoon logos seem to bring the highest prices.

that is an excellent price on an '8, i paid $750 about a yr ago for a zero bevel grind '8, thats about as low as i have seen myself, '6s run about 1K and up, depending on bells/whistles.......the guy i got mine from got it at a show in las vegas, won a lottery, he said my knife from ernie was $575 FWIW

check this link out for a list of custom emersons and prices

Cruising on the 'bay, I see there are several Emerson customs for what looks like low prices. A CQC9 for $745 seems pretty fair compared with the $1300+ of a short while ago. could it just be holiday selling?

you occasionally see the more unusual emersons (ie CQC9,5,etc) for a good price, people wanna move them for 1 reason/another, but the std emerson folders (ie CQC6,7,8) are not easy to find a deal on, most people know what they are worth, the '6 seems esp popular, the '7 is my fav really, suprised its not more popular than the '6, but the '6 seems to bring the most imho, now the older spec war marked stuff seems to bring a premium almost like the old crescent logo stuff, anything diff i guess......wish i could fing a LNIB std '6 for $500 or so....

IIRC from ernie they run $450...............i might not buy all at that price but i would buy several lol.

Thought I would let yall know that ther is a custom 6 bidding on ebay for 465 right now

To the original question - CQC 8 prices have been hurt with the introduction of the production model. There are so few differences in quality between the two (if any) that the premium for getting a chisel grind is just not that great. With Ernie's table prices for a new CQC 6 at $550, anything within $200 of that number is a strong buy.

The question I don't understand is why the new version of a Rhino, which really doesn't have anything to do with the illustrious and enviable past associations of the original, is priced at the inflated figure of $4000 (!) while a genuine old school CQC 8 [see http://www.ebosshoss.com/content/data/id00024/image/295.jpg ] that truly carries the close association with that past is going unsold at $1600. Is the cummulative Emerson collectorship just totally disregarding the genuine for the ersatz?
