custom Koa scales for ESEE 6

i am a beginner when it comes to working with knives and making scales and what not.. thanks to all the wonderful people on the forum and there awesome information i have been able to pick up some tips.. and with the help of a buddy..... i am having so much fun embellishing and tinkering with my knives ...

this was my esee 6 wanted to make some koa scales for it for a while...... what do you know i win a contest by burlsource of some beautiful stabilized koa scales(thanks again man!!)

well here it is.. pls let me know if the process i took can be made simpler or how i can improve on it...

and also how can i get that nice round edges that or on the original micarta scales?

Looking good so far. I've been doing a similar project with a much smaller knife, but I think your next step is probably to take some sandpaper or file and give it some rounding a texture so that it's comfortable for you. I actually used a belt sander to take off a bit of material and round it, but it's pretty comfortable now, and fits the hand pretty well.

My first project also. Next step for me is to finish the handle with finer grit sandpaper, then get some lacquer on there to bring out the luster in the wood. Looking forward to seeing more of your project! Looking great so far!
 
ive got the edges somewhat rounded for comfort... but no how the stock handles are really rounded guess its gonna take alot of time sanding
 
If I may recommend, get you some pieces of cheap wood (pine) and make you a set of practice scales. That way you can file them down to where they feel nice and comfy. Then you can repeat to your nice grips. They look beautiful so far, they will look awesome when you get them fitted to your hand as well as you have them fitted to the knife.:thumbup:
