Some of the custom blades I have come across could use some "modification" in the Kydex/Concealex carry systems. Is there anyone in the US who works to customize sheaths and/or configure new sheaths at a reasonable price (ie $25-$35)? A small extra piece of Kydex could expand most sheaths from one position to 4...right or left hand...hip/IWB/horizontal right, left or back.

Any suggestions???

You may want to talk to Mike at River city Sheaths. He specializes in concealex and carbon fiber. I can attest firsthand that his work is A+++. You can contact him at videoSAS@aol.com or E-Mail me for snail address and phone #. Also maybe www.tacticaltools.com Hope this helps, Brian

You might consider Matt Draper. His Concealex sheaths are the best I've seen. They look and actually feel like leather, are not surrounded by a bunch of rivets, are quiet, and they fit like a dream. They are the only Concealex/Kydex sheaths I will use on my knives. And the best part... They are very reasonably priced. His email is mdraper@mail.utexas.edu.

I second GAKNIFE, Matt Draper is awesome! He did sheaths for my Mayo American Tanto! What great craftsmanship!

Howling,

I really appreciate the positive accolades from Fish and Jerry. Because I'm not sure what exactly you need, I have to say that I may or may not be able to help. I'll be happy to take a look at the current sheath and make recommendations or even make you a new sheath (as you see fit).

Some samples of my work are posted on my Photopoint page: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=155974&a=1307491

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me (the button above should work).

Thanks,

Matt

For a small fix blade tactical type do take a good look at Bob Doziers work. His best belt sheath IME is the same type he makes for most of his small fix blades: a near horizontal with a quick on/ off belt clip. It can be worn strong side abdomen, crossdraw, reverse cavalry (just off one side of the small of back) or slipped into a coat/ jacket pocket. The belt clip acts as a lever for the thumb to push off of as the rest of the hand squeezes the handle and POP, the knife is drawn. For a combination of comfort, compactness, concealability and accessability it is hard to beat.

The pics of this sheath in his current literature (old)and on his web is a bit outdated. The sheaths profile is currently rounded and very minimal in size.

NOTE: Bob was the sheath supplier/ designer of Spydercos first model Moran fix blade.

Oh BTW, his prices start at $35 for a belt sheath while his neck models at about $25.
