Hey guys, I have a custom Kydex cross draw sheath that needs to be remolded to the knife. The retention started to get loose and I tryed to do it myself but...need less to say, it didnt turn out as planned.

Can you guys suggest someone I can contact to help me out with this?

Thanks very much.

Always best to try to send it back to the maker for any readjustments first. Too easy to mess up by doing it yourself. Once you go the DIY route, you have no recourse with the maker.

^^THIS^^

Things can go bad pretty fast once you start applying heat, I'd seriously consider Mikes advice;)

well, the guys is not reaching back out to me so that not an option at this point.

Most all the good sheathmakers develop their own style of doing things, including look, thickness of material, feel (both inside & out), degree of tension/release, attachment options, etc.. Asking someone to fix another's work of unknown quality after it has been modified (DIY fix attempt) gets pretty iffy, given the fact that once they touch it, their name will be attached to the work and it will definitely be different than if it came from their shop in the first place. Your best bet just might be having a new sheath made from scratch by another maker. It might help to post some pictures of both knife and sheath, plus the problem area involved. Maybe someone will want to give it a try, or offer advice as to what you can do. Best of luck!!

You should ping him again, he's a pretty busy guy...
EDIT:
Or you can get one of the talented peoples from here to make you a new one!

Shanester66,

Can't tell much from the pic, doesn't show whether it is a fold-over or pancake style sheath. Ideally you should show both sides, plus the knife in the sheath. Any idea of thickness of material used? From just that look though, I'd recommend getting someone to make you a new one, and make sure material thickness is .093.

Agreed... I make (read: made) mine out of .080 and it worked out OK... I just received a knife with a sheath what was made out of something thin... .060 (I think is the next size down) and I'm afraid to leave it in my truck as it might deform... retention on that thing is OK, but I think that after a few months of use even my body heat will loosen it up a bit...

interesting...I live in the Mohave Desert so leaving a kydex sheath in my car WOULD DEFINETELY NOT be a good idea!
