I just received this Large Gunstock pattern from J. Oeser.

We had been talking about doing a grandad barlow, and changed my mind to a large gunstock.

Spear main, warnclif secondary blade. Steel CPM 154. 4.5 inch frame. Shadow pattern, with a "bolster" of natural canvas micarta, and tan (kind of a tan cream) paper micarta. Orange pinstripe separating the two. With a narrow micarta liner under the package.

Simply lovely feel in the hand. The swedes are nice and crisp. The edges are ground thin! Both springs are flush in open, closed and half positions. No gaps anywhere. He also made me a slip sheath for pocket carry.

A quick size comparison to some "known" knife sizes. Grandad Barlow (S&M), Northfield Sunfish, GEC Scharade #73, and a little Northfield #25 Barlow.

Here is the EDC companion I carried today.

I am having a hard time controlling my excitement! I think there is a tomato that is going to feel the wrath of the Gunstock tonight!

If you want to see much, much better pictures than my terrible cell phone pics, Jared posted some photo's on his thread on here.

He also has more photo's on his face book page

Very unique and fantastic style to this gunstock....and good choice with the secondary blade

There, I fixed the photo's, to delete the repeat and add the other knives for size reference.

Apparently one of the photo settings on my phone did better than the others, but I could not tell until after the photo was full sized on the computer.

Just a beautiful creation!! It will age very well with those micarta choices! I would not be able to control myself either:thumbup:

That is some beautiful work in micarta. Just the other day, I was looking at and drooling over the thread dedicated to his work. Congratulations! That ivory/vanilla color is exquisite.

Very unique. Congrats on that one. The more I see Jared's work the more I am impressed.

That Sir, is one hang of a beautiful knife, as Brad & Jim said - unique.... what a fantastic looking knife, just great!

T, I'm just really glad you like it. The blade selection on this knife is my personal preference too, so I am extra partial to this knife.

Just for clarification on the handle material. It is marketed as antique linear paper micarta from the supplier where I get it. I don't think it is actually antique like some of the Westinghouse micarta I have but rather made to look antique. The color very closely matches Westinghouse. And if you look closely you can see the layers of paper where the handles are rounded giving it a linear quality almost like the grains on ivory.

Thanks for all the kind words about this one too everyone.

Now where are the pics of cutting the tomato? ;)

I am anxiously waiting for my J Oeser Norfolk, wrapped in black paper micarta, should be very soon.

Enjoy your new Gunstock, J's work is wonderful and his variations are as I refer to them as, "Traditional's with a Twist"!

Jeff

T,
congrats for your new knife. One thing I like in Jared's work is his ability to modernize old style pattern, giving them a big twist, yet leaving the feeling and impression that he likes and respects and gets inspiration from the old traditional pattern. Not an easy thing to achieve, in my opinion. And I do think he has some gift for designing handles with irregular shape (dogleg, gunstock, eureka, and so on).

Once you see an Oeser, you will never mistake it for another. The twist is very welcome by most it seems. Great work again Jared
