For some reason I never took or posted pictures of this when I made it, so unfortunately now it's been around the block a bit and gotten some stains and scratches, but I made myself a nice leather dangler sheath for my 16, with a firesteel loop for the custom firesteel I made out of a bamboo chopping block.

The sheath is wetformed and fits the 16 like a glove. It snaps into place and will NOT shake loose. It hangs off a belt perfectly and rides so comfortably I forget it is there.

I am TOTALLY looking forward to seeing that in person in a couple weeks. Love the "butcher block" fire steel knob as well. Are we to assume you made that as well?

That is really nice, looking to do the same kind of thing with my 15 eventually, thanks for the inspiration (and the unobtainable standard of quality against mine will be found lacking)

Thanks guys!

Yes granite, I made the firestel too :) Around the holidays the purchasing guy at my company gets bombarded with gift baskets from different vendors. One of them had a little 6x8" bamboo cutting board. I snatched it up, cut it into squares with opposing patterns, stacked and glued them. I cut it into a cylinder via a hole saw bit, then I epoxied the firesteel (from firesteels.com, this was the big one, the "Firesteel Armageddon") into it, threw the firesteel in the chuck of my drill press and used a wood rasp to shape the handle. I then sanded it and BLO'd it. I absolutely love it, the big handle fits my fat hand perfectly :) Here are some crappy pictures of the process:

The leather work is great
So is the fire steel.
Hope to see more of your projects.

I don't drop in on Beckerville as often as I used to but boy am I glad I did today. That is one of the very best set ups I've seen. I really love the way you put that firesteel together and the WIP pics were a big plus.

Thanks!

I think GSOM got a little mixed up. He meant to say he's TOTALLY looking forward to ME seeing that in a couple of weeks..

..I then BLO'd it..??

Why do I always reduce myself to the uncivilized end of society?

Seriously though Geek, that looks effing amazing! Absolutely love it! You have some real talent. Onya mate..

Very nice....

I love the sheath and the fire steel grip is a nice touch..... Class...

I really dig the sheath. Looks professional, but not mass produced. Has just the perfect touch of home made. And the fire steel just sets it off. Thanks for showing the steps you used.

Thanks a lot!

BLO is Boiled Linseed Oil, used as a wood finish to darken grain and provide water resistance.
