I'm not sure where this post should go, but as part of my continuing effort to expand my collection of custom fixed blade knives, I've found that I'm often at a loss to determine what I'm looking at or what might be available. To help in this effort and to branch out into another area, I'd like to obtain some old catalogs from makers like Loveless, Herron, Sigman, Johnson, Kressler, Pease, Goltz, Moran, Fisk, etc. Please send any information to gkunz@rsausa.com or call me at 440-238-2241. Thanks, Greg

I hate to break the news to you but there are actually many catalog collectors who will pay surprising amounts of money for older knife catalogs like you are requesting. Check out Ebay and you will see. I found this out strictly by accident about 4 years ago while surfing for older knives on Ebay from big name makers. When I saw how much some folks would pay for these old catalogs I almost had a heart attack and realized I had some old ones stashed myself.

I then sold several for between $50 and $100 dollars each from Moran, Herron, Randall Knives and others from the 70's. It is scary to think how many dollars I threw away over the years since I used to make it a practice in my teenage days to order these catalogs, dream, and drool over them knowing I could not afford the knives.

Good luck in your search.

Too smart too late once again in my life. I have a couple of catalogs but didn't know they were a collectible in themselves! Can't hurt to ask.

You might want to consider purchasing the knife annuals (knives 2002, etc.). They have many pictures of knives of many, many different makers. You should be able to order back issues from your neighorhood bookstore or amazon..

They also have contact information for the majority of U.S. knifemakers.

You would be surprised what you might find in them.

Just a suggestion (if you don't already have them that is).

Yes,
Just happened to thumb through it at Barnes & Knoble.. Very, very nice. That publication never ceases to amaze me.... Definately one to add to the book collection..

I've got dozens of catalogs going back to the early 70's. I find them invaluable information on knivemakers and it's fun to see how a particular maker's work has progressed in 30 years. I have an original catalog from Bob Loveless with a personal letter from him. I would not mind scanning some of these older catalogs if someone needed it.

I was very lucky to obtain a Loveless catalog circa 1971 with the purchase of my knife from Wynn. While at a local gun show I also came across what Loveless called a catalog, dated December 1969. It consists of five typed pages accompanied by three black and white photos, showing a half dozen knife styles in each photo. He describes construction, steel, handle materials, sheath design and guarantee ("I make no promises about how well my knife will hold up for you. I don't know how you'll use it, or how well you'll care for it." Definately vintage Loveless opinion! Knife prices were from $85 to $200 for the Big Bear. Very cool overall!! Anyone have any more older catalogs from the big makers, please let me know. Thanks
