Hey STR
Here's the Mini-Manix we worked on. To all who are reading, let me give credit where it is due. I made the "wave" feature, STR made the scales, and Rick Penrod (an ebay seller) made the lanyard. I'm so nuts that I had the skull bead inlaid with garnet eyes down at the Jewelry District in LA. It's the first blade I ever modified, so I want to brag a little.

They always look so much better when on the knife don't they?

Nice job. I'm sure its a great user and apparently a good looker too. I would be interesting to see if it lost any weight in that new scale change over also.

It's a beauty....except I don't fancy lanyards, especially jewelery like ones.

However, to each his own and it's a very nice piece.

Seriously, I have to learn how to tie those lanyards. Is there a link to an instruction site somewhere? Must be.

Dr. I did post a tutorial somewhere and it may be here in my forum if I moved it here. I'll find out and let you know or post either the link to the pictures and step by step or the thread itself.

Well, ok its not quite the tutorial I had remembered. I was thinking I would have this thread moved to my forum but since I didn't start it as I thought I don't think that I will. Perhaps instead of that I should just make a new thread on it but in the mean time while I decide if thats feesible here are the step by steps I posted. Its fairly easy to follow using the pictures as guides.

Read post number 7 and 8 and you'll have you a lanyard in no time flat.

It weighs in at 5.2 as opposed to 5.5 ounces, and the handles are thicker! I like the micarta feel, as it's kind of grippy.

The handles should be the same or very close. I measured them and picked some the closest I could dig up in my stash of Green Canvas.

You have very little margin for much error to use too much thinner or thicker with the way Spyderco tolerances are so I wanted to be sure that none of the screws bumped each other in the middle of the barrels if they were too thin. A little thicker is better than a little thinner because you can always drill the recess for the screw heads a micron or two deeper to make up for it but too thin leads to having to either start over or cut original hardware ie, barrels and screws shorter, which is a place I try not to go into if I can prevent it. The way these are usually done it is not a permanent mod to your folder this way. Hope that makes sense.

brucekent711, welcome to the forums! Is that a Schmuckatelli skull? And are you left handed? I have a full sized Manix that I did a very crude job of waving. One of these days I'm sending it to STR to clean up for me.

Congrats to you STR and the ebay seller for one wicked looking mini-manix. I really like how aggressive it turned out...might not be cool for sheeple but is awesome to me.

Thanks a lot! I'm pretty sure I got it.

Yep, that is a Schmuckatelli skull. I'm actually right-handed, but the position of the clip allows for right-handed reverse draw.
