I have been collecting Ernies handmades for a couple of years. Patiently, and expensively I have been able to acquire: a Viper 1, a Viper 5, two CQC6s,, a CQC7, a CQC8, a CQC9, a prototype (no number) titanium Lagriffe, a tanto neck knife, and two fancy pre-tactical customs.

I am curious as to what other customs there are out there. What do you all have?

What does your CQC8 look like? Handle material, colour, contour? Blade finish? Ti- liner finish?

Thanks,

Jason Yang

Jason, my CQC8 has black G10 handles, silver, satin finish blade with banana shape and grey, bead blast titanium liners.

Thanks Jackstraw.

Have you seen the CQC8 on the Emersonknives webpage under handmades? Mine looks like that, all black- blade, handle, liners with a contoured G-10 handle. Every CQC8 I've seen since has been like yours (with a wider blade too-not thicker) and I was wondering if he made the all black one anymore.

Jason,
I have seen the CQC8 on the Emerson webpage. Its great looking. How has the black finish on the blade held up. I recently acquired Rennie R.'s ES1-M in all black. The black finish is excellent.

The ESM-1 is an awesome knife, huge and chisel ground. The Black-T has worn away in some spots along the grind lines but only after hard use. It still looks great however.

Hey guys

My first post on this forum. Anyways I've managed to collect a couple custom Emerson's also.

I currently have one of the prototype ES1 models and documentation on there being only 3 of them from Ernie himself. A Handmade Commander, 1 CQC6, 1 Titanium bladed CQC6, 1 Black bladed ES1-M and my pride and joy a prototype CQC8 with the wave feature.

Just got this new computer and once I have my scanner up and running I was planning on putting some of them up on the forums.

Take care,
Ross T.

I can't wait to see those pictures, especially the one of the CQC8 with the wave.

I too look forward to the pics of the "wave" CQC-8! I held a CQC-8 at a show recently and fell in love! How do you guys afford to buy so many of these Emerson customs? I'm having a hard time affording a Randall #14, and it's only $250! I just can't manage to swing $500+ for a knife...what's the secret?!?!

For me, it's lots of grilled cheese sandwiches and Ramen noodles.

Grilled cheese and Ramen.........dang you guys are lucky! I only get to eat Hamburger Helper without the hamburger.

I actually ended up trading a Seecamp .32 and some money for the ES1-M. I really miss the Seecamp but I'm glad I got the Emerson.

Bad thing about having a couple customs is you always want more than what you got. Hey does anyone out there know a fair price for a partially used kidney. I saw another Emerson I wouldn't mind having in my collection.

Ross,
A titanium bladed CQC6? That is a new one on me. Is the blade sharp? Carbide coated?
Bolsters titanium? Thanks.
Alan

Hey Jackstraw

The bolsters aren't titanium (I'm pretty sure) the only difference between this CQC6 and my other one is the material used on the blade. I'll call Emerson's and make sure on the bolsters.

You can feel a slight, very slight difference in weight between the two. When you open it up it's still fast but you can feel the titanium or it might be some of the carbide sorta scratching.

The blade is titanium and when you turn it over to look at the flat back surface of the blade you can see the carbide coating along the edge.

I think there was an article in the first issue of "COMBAT KNIVES" about a knife Emerson did with a titanium blade with the same coating along the edge of the blade.

They tested the knife in the article cutting hemp rope and said it seemed to get sharper as they kept on cutting.

When I talked to Emerson about the knife he said that's what the coating was supposed to do. He even said they gave up on the test cause they just got tired of waiting for it to dull.

The only other difference I can see between the original CQC6 and the Ti CQC6 is on the handle the hole for a lanyard doesn't go all the way through and on the top of the blade, unlike the original CQC6, It doesn't have the secondary slope <term?> angled like the other one.

It's blade shape is the same but on the original it has one more angle on it than the titanium one.

It would be easier to take a picture and post it.

I got the scanner up and running. Now I just have to figure out how to get a picture posted on the forum. Guess I gotta read the FAQ's.

Sorry 'bout the delay first time using a computer this up to date, the other one was about as old as a Commodor 64, and I've never used a scanner before either.

Talk to ya soon
Ross T.
