I was recently asked by a customer to make them a replica of the Bowie knife used by Lt. Aldo Rains in the movie Inglorious Bastards. I had never seen it so I had to look up the knife on the internet so I had a still picture to work from. It was a lot of fun making this knife. Since the customer wanted to be able to use the knife the blade was heat treated and hardened. The hardest part was finding a piece of antler that had the right shape. But here is what I finally came up with.

Your photo doesn't show.
I'd realy like to see it.
Did you carve somebody's fore head to see if it works as good as it does in the movie?

AWESOME!!! What are the specs on that one?Personally I would rather have G 10 or Micarta handle slabs over antler.

Thanks bigcountry.
This knife is pretty big.
18 in. overall
12 in blade that is 2 3/8 in. at its widest point.
The antler in the handle was the hardest part to find a piece that was big enough around and also had the right curve to it. But luckily I found one buried in my pile that I got to work. It was very nerve wracking though because I knew if I screwed that piece up it would take me a while to find another one, but i turned out ok I guess.

I always thought that knife looked like one of those big old Anaconda bowies made by Blackjack.

awesome job!

Great looking knife, wish I had one. anybody every find out who did Aldo's bowie; I imagine it was a custom build, but maybe it was an off the shelf factory? This seems to be quite a mystery, even with google.

You could have contacted Harvey Dean....he made one for some of the principals involved....and if you had posted here before making the knife, we could have helped you with that information....realize you don't post all that much, but we do try to be as helpful as possible when asked.

Best Regards,

Harvey actually made the Bowie below for Brad Pitt which was a gift from Brad to the movie's director Quentin Tarantino.
