Hi, lately I've had the "exchange of ideas" with some makers, for the prices of their works.
I state that I do not want to offend anyone, and many, I consider them, as well as very good, as well as friends, so I hope nobody takes this Topic. Also you can hear both bells, and then accordingly (both maker that buyers / collectors).

Now, I was wondering, is better to spend so much money on a brand knife expensive, or it's better to have it done by a maker?
And you "Maker" how you quantized them??

Logically I speak from buyer, and I know, how many hours of work it takes to make a good piece, and so I understand (in part) certain costs. I can understand a piece, especially embellished with important materials, expensive or rare, but on the pieces made with materials that everyone pays the same way ??

;) Peace & Love

a production (brand) knife can suit almost anyone's needs, but if there are specific materials you want that arent offered in the style of knife you are seeking or you want a one of a kind (or extremely limited) piece, there's the custom market.

it depends on the cost difference between the production brand that meets your minimum requirements vs the custom that meets your maximum i suppose... it also depends on the reputation of the production brand and the maker and their body of work (specifically tollerances and heat treating rep).

as far as which custom maker: many custom makers have designs that they've done for big brands, so if you find that you really like a brand's knife that was designed by someone, contact that someone to build you a custom. in my case, i fell in love with the htm gunhammer so i reached out to darrel ralph to make one that had the materials i wanted.
