Doing an insurance review of some of our stuff. Can a Randall Made knife be accurately described as "handmade?"

Well, on the Randall website they refer to Randall knives as "handmade" on their "History" page. Specifically in the timeline 1990-2012. Quote- "Randall continues to be the biggest name in handmade knives...".

In their FAQ section under "General- "What is a Randall Made Certification & Guarantee" it says "We certify that every Randall Made knife is 100% handmade in our own workshop".

They also refer to Randall knives using the term "hand-crafting" on their "Design" page.

Since the official company website uses terms like "handmade" and "hand-crafting" when referring to their knives I would have no problem referring to them using the same terms. And if an insurance company questioned my use of such terms, I would simply show them the company website.

So if I'm understanding correctly, your ability to insure your Randall depends on if it's handmade or not?.......and then the deciding vote on that issue is the opinion of some random guys on an internet forum? 🤨🤔

Are you about 6 days early with this post?

Not at all . . .I was just looking at how I would describe it on the spreadsheet inventory.

I miss the reference to being 6 days early . . . .

OP: They're having fun with you. ;) 6days = April Fools.

It's a legitimate question. Randalls fall in somewhat of a grey area. Many hands create them, so are they Custom, or Handmade, OR production. It depends.

They are also WAY more valuable and sought-after than most production knives.

History: This topic of Custom VERSUS Handmade comes up every once in a while. HAHA it NEVER ends well.... 👀

I wish you well. Good luck on your declaration.

Good thread.

To clarify my response, the question itself is valid.

Based on OP's post history, especially regarding the topic of Randall knives, I'm more skeptical.

The 6 days bit was indeed a reference to April fool's day, given that I have no clue why an insurance company would care if a knife was handmade or not.

Yes, your skepticism is understandable, given my experience and admitted bias.

My thanks to everyone for their views on this. My inventory now describes this knife to be "hand-made". It probably makes no real difference with regarded to any insurance issues, but I wanted the description to reflect the community consensus view on that.

I’ve been to Randall about 10 years ago, they are handmade. Final edge was done with a stone.
