Every GEC knife comes with a tube popper you can use to open the next one. 😉

Beautiful knife and pics of it

Yes that defntely works I just worried with enough repetition the cardboard tube would give or the plastic cap would crack or tear
And most are too snug for just my nail without going side to side and walking it out

I get what you’re saying. I’ve opened a fair number of GEC tubes that way and have never had a problem with the tubes or caps. I do sort of cup my hand over the knife and cap while holding the tube in my other hand, making sure everything stays put, and it seems to work out fine for me. I will also say, though, that I don’t store my knives in the tubes, so I’m not opening and closing the same tubes on a regular basis.

I do think your tube-opening contraption is clever. I’ve just never seen the need for a specific tool for that task (including GEC’s tube popper.)

Why are you continually opening the same tubes? They aren't meant for a lot of repeated use, it's just something to ship the knife in before you receive and then use it.

I leave them stored in the tubes but sometimes just want to take a look

Yes i realize they arent meant to be a sheath ☺️
Most of you can likely tell whats inside going by the numbers on the cap
I however am still trying to catch up on the numbers thing

The tubes with the pictures are nice to quickly tell what they are

You can also very lightly go around the plastic with 320 sandpaper, so it can be a little easier to take out of the tube without needing tools. No too much though, you don't want it to fall out.

I did get a GEC T-Pop tool, and some nice Paua abalone scales that I plan on putting on it. with nickel silver pins. Just haven't got around to it yet.

Check this old thread...classic.

Thanks for the link to that old thread. It’s a shame many of the photos are missing, but I’m glad yours were still there. Classic meako! 😁🤣

Except for ones , like a 73 and maybe a very few others .

That’s true. Those square-end trappers with the flush tangs don’t work as well for tube popping.

ive only had like one cap edge break so far. its hanging on by a thread. using another gec is typically how i get them open nowadays. neat trick when I found out. Thing I learned this tid bit at the factory during one rendezvous. Used to just rely on the old fingers!
