I'm thinking about maybe doing a custom order for an AK bowie but instead of a horn handle I'm thinking about going for wood or has anyone ever ordered one with out handles and made your own handles to put on them? And instead of a polished blade I kinda like the was a VCAK looks the unpolished look do I just give Auntie Yangdu a call or send an email and order it or do I have to wait till they make another batch of them

Probably best to just send her an email and tell her what you want. That way she can answer and figure stuff out when she finds the time.

We've seen lots with wood handles but I don't recall any with a villager finish, seems like they are all polished.

Don't recall anyone ordering no handle either but I have told auntie to let me know if she gets stuff with really bad handles.

I've thought of no handle myself a few times.

I'm a sheet metal guy so getting some A rivets (soft rivets) for the handle is no big deal with A rivets all you need is a hammer and a solid metal surface

And a think an AK bowie with some cherry or some kinda hard dark redwood of that nature would make for a beautiful piece of working art

My AK Bowie has nice wood handles on it and villager finish. I love this knife

Me too. That looks like a Bura too. Did it come like that or did you give it the vinegar treatment?

It was made by Yuvraj 29 ounce and 15.5 inches. I took a piece of 180 grit sand paper over the black forge finish and it turned out to have a sort of tiger stripe look to it, so instead of increasing grit as planned to polish the blade i left it as seen in the pic cause i think it turned out pretty cool lookin.

Mr.Dickiss that's is exactly what I'm look for and want or maybe my blade to be a little darker kinda like the one bawanna did the artwork on the handle maybe that dark

I might even go all out and have a karda and the other knive thingy( im still getting use to all the names forgive me )made to go with it and a sheath to go with it

And since it's an AK bowie is it warranty as a pry bar also? Cause the videos I've seen on YouTube the blade it's close to a 1/2" inch thick so I didn't know if the same warranty applies to the AK Bowie or not

Only CAK is warranted as a prybar but mine AK Bowie came with a black forge finish on it and then i started to polish it up but stopped cause i liked the look of it the way it is now. Its a really nice knife. I wouldnt shy away from a CAK either i had one and loved it to death but sadly it had a handle issue any Auntie had me return it but i plan on getting one again soon. All my HI knives are amazing and each one has different qualities to them that make them very good at many different tasks.

The bowies generally do not come with the Karda and Chakma. Only khukri's come with those generally speaking.

Email would be best, since you can write down exactly what you want with less chance for misunderstanding. You could include a photo, such as the one posted here by Mr Dickiss that you like. Also, Yangdu can deal with email when she has time, which is better than a phone call.

One thing to be clear about: In HI language, the term "villager" is used two different ways. Mostly it means that the blade has a satin finish rather than polished. The quality is the same as polished and some people prefer the satin finish look. More recently, HI has been selling "villager" blades with the black forging scales left on. These blades tend to be less expensive because less time goes into making them, but the robust quality is still there; the difference is mostly cosmetic.

It sounds like you are talking about the latter meaning of "villager." Just make sure that Yangdu knows what you mean by villager.

HI doesn't sell blade blanks, the only time HI sells blades without handles is when they have cracked so badly that they aren't worth saving. Your best bet is to purchase a blem and rehandle it yourself.

Ok I'm going to shoot Auntie an email in the next few days so I can order my AK bowie I think I'm going to ask for a wood handle and a black forge finish. Do I need to include a length or is that standard 15" for the AK Bowie which is what I want. and will it come with a sheath

Mr. Dickiss I saved a pic of your bowie that I'm probably going to attach to my email that way I can show Auntie what I'm looking for cause a picture is worth a thousand words

And thanks for the help guys

Definitely include your length preference. I don't think there's a "standard" anymore for the bowies.

It's important to note that Mr. Dickiss achieved that look by removing the forge scale so I'd probably just ask for the villager w/forge finish as David so eloquently described.

You could then work it to get the finish you prefer.

So what would be a good length for a bowie? 13"~14"? And how about thickness 3/8"~ 1/2" on the spine or would that be up to the kami?

After looking at my crow and fish I'm thinking 13.5" might be the magic numbers for me. That would give me about 5.5" for a handle and about 8" for the blade
