hi all.
my custom order just arrived today. just getting home ... and i wanted to do a better job than this ... but pretty exciting stuff, so wanted to post something here now. i will get better pics in here in the future.

background:
looking through john's models, i liked the semi-wharncliffe EDC, but i wanted the kephart style handle. so, i asked john if he would combine the two. he graciously agreed.

first impressions:
1) wow.
2) the blade....really like the blade shape. i knew i wanted the semi-wharncliffe pattern. but, the overall size and shape of the blade seems just about perfect.
3) the handle....beautiful work by john. it turned out just the way i had hoped. no easy task for john, i'm sure. he patiently answered all my questions. and, i had a lot of them. besides wanting the semi-wharncliffe blade shape, i really asked john a lot of questions on the handle. and, i'm sure i changed my mind more than once. ultimately, i sent john the wood and a black micarta rod for pins. and, even though he said he had never used the micarta pins before, he was more than happy to do it. john, i really like how the handle turned out. awesome. thanks.
4) overall....this is a beefy little blade. not sure how to describe it, but it is a stout and sturdy little knife. the handle is thick...just about a full inch at it's thickest. handle feels real nice to hold. contours are great. maybe a tad too thick for my hand, but i can adjust that, as necessary. i don't want to speak too soon before i get out and use it. but, these are initial impressions, after all.

specs:
blade: 3 3/4"
handle: 4 1/8"
steel: 1/8" O1
grind: seems like a convex with a microbevel
handle: mahogany (no offense intended john, but i gotta give Chris Bowden of KFU a shout out here. i told him how much i liked the mahogany handle on an EDC blade of his. and he sent me the rest of what he had....for free)
hardware: black micarta liners and pins. SS lanyard tube.

Again, i can't wait to get out and use this thing. i keep looking over at it. it is screaming to be used. this thing is really going to be great.

on to the pics!

Great knife and choices, thanks for sharing, the handle really did come out well, it does like like one that wants to work!

kudos again to john for being so helpful to his customers as well as making great knives

Looks great. Funny... I also ordered a semi warncliff but went with the anniversary EDC handle :)

Hey Todd -

That is one Beefy Mofo!

Love the Mahogany - very unique to your knife - good idea!

I love my JK Semi wharnie - I use it in the kitchen and it is great!

Non-metallic pins are not something that I have ever considered - but they came out great! Why not!

Can you now consider colored pins?? We'll have you to thank for that innovation!

Thanks for the pictures my friend - I am sure we will see more as this tool is used every day!

best

Very nice, good thinking in the handle/ blade combination I'm sure it will serve you well

Thanks for posting. I only did one other knife in mahagony, a Kephart that I believe danc has.

That looks like a handful. I like it. The blade shape really works for me.

Great idea there Todd, blending 2 great knife designs into 1.
Love the semi wharnie shape & the kephart handle is comfortable simplicity.

Love the multi-layer look of the handles. Nice contrast.

Great looking blade!

Now that is a great looking user. I don't think many of the guys on this forum get John's knives for being safe queens, but that looks like a really good user. Congrats on getting it and great collaboration with John on the design. If i could just get someone to drop some carmel micarta or some cocobolo by my house, I'd send it John to for my next knife!

Get out and use that baby.

Sorry Lorenzo,John's allergic to cocobolo as stated in the LRK+ mod discussion thread.

If you are at all like me, avoid cocobolo! After I use it I look like Fat Bastard from Austin Powers, I swell up, my eyes swell closed, and I itch!

Might take a look at Zicote, it is similar to cocobolo and John works with it, it's a gorgeous wood

Yay, an excuse to post a picture of this knife somewhere else! Sorry if it's a thread-jack TPVT
