I have been working with Rob Fetner over at Bandito leather to try and come up with something distinctive for the marauder. I wanted to stay true to its east german bayonet /80's eud knife/ air force survival/ roots but still acknowledge that it is not truly any of these things. As a south paw I also wanted some thing that was truly ambidextrous. So working under the KISS principles of design Robert pointed out that snaps wear out and retention snaps break so we also worked on a retention system that had a long life but was easy to replace. I think Robert really out did himself on this one. I would be thankful if yall would take a look at what we came up with and give me your feedback.
The leather is 8-10 oz and the belt loop has a welt sewn in the top to give it both a squared look and a clean fit with a belt. As you can see when the bead is pulled back the retention thong falls away from the edge so that the knife can come in and out with out cutting the strap. There are two holes in the belt loop for the the dogwood style tie down depending on which way the thong is threaded, it is ether left or right handed. The welt is squared off so that the blade can fit snugly in ether a left or right handed draw.
