Ok, since I can't get any reply from RMJForge, and no one seems to know anything about the Paul Chen pipe axe, this is my next logical step. Can anybody refer me to a hawk maker that makes functioning pipe hawks. I'm looking more for the style and actual use than for smoking, but if I could get the best of both worlds (like what RMJ makes) that'd be great. Even if they don't take custom orders, I'd just like to have a nice functional period-looking pipe 'hawk. Thanks for any suggestions.

Wow... beautiful work. Didn't know I'd expect to pay quite so much for a period pipe hawk, though. I guess for my own personal piece of uniquely American history, I'll start saving. Wonder what a "base" model might run me... hmm...

I make some basic model pipe hawks that are funtional. This is a collaboration piece that I made with Chuck Burrows. We go by U.B. Forge on our work together.

Wow guys. Thanks so much for the multitude of replies. This definately gives me a nice selection of some awesome work to choose from for my pipe hawk. I promise I am going to be in touch with a few of these makers for some price quotes for the hawk I have in mind. Again, thank you guys so much. :D

Mark, I'm having trouble emailing you. Something about a quota violation. How should I try to contact you a quote on the 'hawk idea I have?

Edit: nevermind, haha, you just contacted me back.

a note: these guys are the best! whatever you end up with will be a treasure and an investment!

like your avatar....haven't played that game in years.....;)

You might also lok at Gib Guignard, Ray Richards, Alan Lannigan (sp), Bill Buxton, Chuck Patrick, Dana Acker, Carl Rechsteiner (crex). That ought to keep you busy. Good luck. Cant go wrong with any of these and others listed in this thread.

Whoops , I see Gib and Ray were already Mentioned. Forgot about Bruce. :footinmou

Any of you guys that have custom pipe hawks wanna post some pics of 'em? Maybe say who forged along with it. I'm a sucker for nice pipe hawk pics.

Hey, I can ask, can't I? haha :D

Dont own any pipe hawks. I am more of a spiker than a piper :)

But I'm sure you will forgive me for these links:

A very unusual piece from Daniel Winkler that almost broke my resolve not to buy a pipehawk when I saw it on Bladegallery:

Another beauty from Daniel Winkler:

Feast your eyes on these pieces from Lonnie Hansen:

BTW Bladegallery probably has more pictures of custom tomahawks than anyplace on the net I have ever clicked.

Enjoy

I have some pipe hawks about 1/2 done just haven't got around to finishing them. I will get some pic's of the heads as soon as I can and post them. Gib

^^^ Mark Williams and Gib are two smiths I've been wanting to get kitted out from with a good rustic looking knife and pipe hawk. I think it was Mark who made an amazing socketed bowie, massive thing which was brilliance!!! That and Gib's work was some of the first custom work which had that flare which really appeals to me!

I myself have an RMJ hawk and would never let it go (the sheath for it was made by his dad and is spectacular!) but I love that rustic look instead of perfect and clean.

Went to the Reno show and a couple of ABS guys had hawks.
Alan Tiensvold had a bad ass smoker and Dickie Robinson had a regular spike .
Beautiful stuff.I'll look for pics.
Randy
