Hey Guys and Gals,

This is a customer designed piece that I'm just about done with. All it needs is a leather wrap beneath the head and an oval on each side with customer supplied engraving.

The head is mild steel with a forge welded , high carbon bit. 19 1/4 oal. with poured pewter mouthpiece. Curly Maple haft of course.

Mark,
That's a very well-done pipe hawk. The design elements, proportions and execution give it an 'authentic' look. Hope you'll post again when it's finished.
As one who has the pleasure of owning three of your fine hawks, I know that you have quite a knack for such things!
BTW, Meriwether Lewis' personal pipe hawk is currently on display here in Denver as part of a large Lewis & Clark exhibit. I hope to see it this weekend.

Thanks Buddy,

I can only take credit for the execution, and a couple of changes from the buyers' design. I really enjoy making hawks as much ; if not more, than knives.

The buyer knew what he wanted and we've been worked together in all facets of this hawk.

And Keith,

Everyone should have at least two hawks. One for show and one for go.

I REALLY like the looks of that one.

Umm.. I think there might just be some thing to what Mark said about two hawks... ! :D

(See ya in a few days Doc. and Mark!)

Oh yeah and Keith, one of these days we are going to get you down to Blade;).

For 'go' ??!! I *think* I'd like to go with one, but I'm not sure exactly who or what I would go at it with....

Ahhh, once I started swinging it, I'm certain a usefulness would pop into my mind. :D

All funnin' aside, Mark, your hawks are drop-dead beautiful. I always appreciate your work pleasantly! Thanks for the post.

Just finished up with the wrap and ovals. Sorry about the poor pictures. I had hoped to have to gotten the sheath done. Oh well, after the show.

Thanks for the kind words.

Plan to get started on a mosaic hawk and knife set when I get back home. Stay tuned :D
