G'Day Paul, Great! Your Craftsman 2OT <9530> appears to be in much better shape than mine and you've done really well. Only 780 produced in 1959 so how many have survived at a time when knives were users and not collectors. Can you see much of the 'Craftsman' on that shield?...anyway doesnt really matter the shield helps identify as a Craftsman 2OT. Do you like the 'feel' of it?... Still talk'n knives pal! Hoo Roo

HI Larry, Na no craftsman left, somebody has realy done a number on it at sometime, although as over polished as the shield is the bone has no wear around it, i have not held a craftsman but i assume it would take some polishing to wear off the "craftsman" logo. As for the feel they are like nothing else they have such a presence in your hand, wheighty ,solid . im suprised they were not more popular. I think they would be great if they had the clip and a sheep's foot.

Really nice pouches Paul, you've really got them fitted well. That 2OT is a beaut! Looks like that clip is pretty close to 100%. What's that now, 7 2OTs and 1 3OT in OZ? That's probably half of what's left in the world!:D:D

OK, I gotta ask. From what I've read on this forum, the 2OT is pretty rare and considered a great find when you can get one. My question pertains to the various references to the 3OT like above. The only 3OT I can find is this one, which is certainly not rare. So, is someone making fun, or was there a previous knife also called the 3OT that is a real b*tch to find?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, I think it's been said that there were only about 12 3OT's made, but Larry's is the only one I've ever seen, or heard about for that matter. Say Larry, I've been wondering, did you get that one off Saratogaseller shortly after the close? I know they had gotten a pretty decent portion of a few Williams boards. VERY smart of you to make some inquiries!

Eric

G'Day Eric, Not Saratogaseller.I purchased privately as I have the majority of my more scarce Schrades. To add a bit of mystery to your life mate he is a member of this Forum for a considerable period never posts <or extremely rarely>, but I see his handle here reading constantly and I suspect there are a number of members in this category. He had access to the very best of the Schrade Wall collections.I hope we see some clear photos of the 'wall collection' in Bruce Voyle's upcoming Schrade book as I suspect a lot of casual collectors actually have knives from the wall without neccessarily knowing. If there was one silver lining to the Schrade disbursal tragedy it was giving us rank and file collectors the opportunity to own <hold for posterity> knives we would never have otherwise had the opportunity to purchase. Yes I was very quick off the mark to accept anything Schrade I was being offered in 2004 as it was obviously only a once in lifetime opportunity and by todays prices they were modestly priced. This forum gave me the opportunity to know what I should be buying particularly Codger and Larry Vickery and as I said I will remember them in my will ...they get to cover my debts!!! Hoo Roo

oohh, OK, I think I have an inkling but I'll leave it at that to protect the names of the innocent:D:D I don't want to hear about debt, I think my knife debt is greater than my mortgage at the moment ( just kidding...sort of;) ).

Did Mr. Voyles nab some pictures of the boards? I seem to recall him mentioning something of the sort. The only ones I've seen are the ones LT snagged as they were hurrying him out of the building. What an impressive collection it was! I'm sure we'll never know what happened to the majority of those knives. Aside from a few individuals, and some collectors who got some sizeable chunks, the individual pieces that were sold peicemeal will probably forever be lumped in with the near mint examples of Schrades that survived all these years unblemished in someone's dresser drawer, and not on the walls of the Schrade plant ( Or in the Williams' home, and then to the Schrade plant;):D:D ) Speaking of which, you can see a good portion of these knives in the older Sargent's books. The Schrade Cut. and Schrade-Walden sections have a slew of pictures that were pretty much exclusively from the Herman Williams Collection.

Eric

PS Here are a couple of 2OTs to keep with the theme of the thread:

i think this is the best 3OT picture Larry sent. but do look at the 15-20 shots of them both together.
both from 1959.
