I dont want to sell it, as theres only 3 and Busse knives, especially INFI are amazing works of art, but I am buying my first home and want some more money for a downpayment. Since theres only 3 and the other 2 arent selling, how do I know how much my hatchet is worth?

I posted it for sale on the Usual Suspects as $1800 or best offer. I do not know if that is insanely high or too cheap. Can anyone make any recommendations? I dont mine waiting a while to sell it, I am not in desperate need of cash, but would like to make my downpayment in the next 6 months.

I think $1500 is still a bit on the high side, but it may have been possible back in the fall. However, with the fusion line coming out bit by bit over the next year I don't see too many people parting with that much "new knife" money.

There are plenty of serious collector's for the older vintage stuff..they will be your best audience.

I have to agree with Nemmy completely. $1500.00 is still high, especially with the new stuff trickling in over the course of this year. I still feel that it's value, in comparison to the remaining axes which are most probably in factory mint condition, is effected by the refurbishment it has gone through.

I can't speak for other collector's, but I would willingly pay more for the factory mint condition axe over one that has seen use and been drastically refurbished. Maybe I am just a purist. Theorically, if a factory mint axe were to sell for, let's say $1200.00, then $900-$1000.00 might be more fair for your piece in comparison. But that's just my two cents. What say you other hogs or the round trough?

The best estimate of what it should sell for is around $800-900 (mint). I don't think the hatchet is worth anything more then that. I believe that for any Busse knife to pull down $1000-1500 it has to be a spanking rare oldie, extremely Huge or a one of custom Variant.

It always goes back to not how much it's worth but how much someone is willing to pay!

I think if someone will pay 1800.00 for a American Kensi 1400.00 or 1600.00 for a 1 of 3 Busse axe is not too far off it just depends on how fast you want to sell it.

& oh yeah what Bravado said :D

Was in the market for a AK myself, but passed on more than one in the 1300-1500 range. As far as the axe, i'm pretty sure 1500 is still too high. If you want to find out what interested folks might be willing to pay, list it on BF for whatever and also say taking offers. See what kind of offers you get. Good luck.

If you want offers....Put it on EBAY!!!!

The boys are right about the Fusions diverting some of the interest. For an item that rare you might want to look into Bladeart or Bladegallery for consignment.

I think $975. - $1000. would probably be FMV. This piece will sadly never be a user so your target audience will most likely be the high-end collector.

To add to what Bravado & David Brown said, for such a rare and unusual piece, I think it is very difficult to set even a close estimate of its value. Regarding the reconditioning, if I remember correctly wasn't it done at the Busse factory? - if so, I do not feel it lowers the value all that much. Is $1800 too high - probably, but if you are willing to wait, who knows? Put it on eBay with a high reserve price and low starting price, and see what bids you get (the additional fee for a reserve auction is 1% of the reserve price if the item does not sell).

I would enjoy seeing a picture of it refinished; would a gold member post it here for Brian?

Maybe Jerry will come out with a Fusion Axe version that is a more useable size than the Paul's Hatchet, somewhere in the $375 to $450 range.
:D

OK guys thanks for the advice. I am going to go back to the Usual Suspects board and post it as $1500 or best offer. I might take less than 1500, so thats why I will include "Best offer".

Any gold members who would host more pics for me? The usual suspects hosts my pics for free - but I thought some members here might want to see more pics of the hatchet.

Just a heads up, usualsuspect.net isn't the best place for such a high-end Busse piece. You'd be much better off listing it on bladeforums or eBay. You will get a much different demographic in your audience.

If anyone wants an American Kensi for $1500 check Primoknives.com it's been there for a long time.

I've held the AK listed on primoknives, they brought it to Blade West...it's perfect mint condition.
