So looking at my RAT-7 I started to wonder if there was a maker out there who can create custom RAT-7 scales. I do not own the proper tools to even think about attempting to create them myself.

What do you need to do the job? Can you use hand tools?

Some simple hand tools can do the job. Files, rasps, sandpaper, drill...

You can buy the material.

Shouldn't take much.

If you want a duplicate of the factory scales but just in a different material, then there are makers here that'll treat you right.

You might want to think about getting one that custom fits your hand.

Get two slabs of soft wood, drill the holes to hold it on the knife, (or even just tie it on...:D)
then carve/file/sand away, little by little till it just feels right in your hand.
Then send the handle and/or knife off to a Pro to use as a pattern to make one out of the material of your choice.
That way you are assured of getting something made for your hand...

It is a drag to pay for a fancy handle and then it does not feel right in your hand...:(

It's great to have something that is just for you...:D

Nobody knows but you...;)

And you never know...you might just surprise yourself...

Hmmm....didn't think of that...thanks for the ideas! Any "Pro's" one would recommend? :D

micarta is nice, fits the bill for this type of knife, g10 is also nice. If you want some interesting hardwood try checking a flooring store and buy a sample. Drill presses are great but you may be able to live without one (for now :)) you can use pins, rivets (i like the look of corby rivets) and of course, the screws from the original. what type of handle do you want?
