Custom Rucki options question

My boyfriend recently send an email to Swamp Rat custom shop requesting a price for a satin saber grind Rucki only to get a rather short reply from a "Trissy" saying that they don't offer it and that was it. Needless to say, my boyfriend was not too happy with Trissy's reply considering that the Busse family was famed for interactive customer services.

But that made me wonder, why can't they add a saber grind to a Rucki blank rather than that particular grind they do already for the normal rucki? I thought since it's a custom, it was a doable grind or at least do a saber grind impression since I thought the metal width was wide enough to offer variety of different grinds?

And I also have to agree that Trissy's short reply was not exactly helpful but I'm not going there and opening that can of worm. I'm more interested in the *why* we can't have such options for a swamp rat custom? That's why I decided to post on here and find out rather than sending an email back to them with a likely chance for another short reply.

Even the Busse custom shop has limited options on most models. Typically, primary grinds aren't an option through the custom shop unless they've already been offered on that blade style before. I *think* the reasoning behind this is that it requires time to code the CNC machines, and that time costs a fair bit of money. My thinking is that they won't do that for a one-off. Also, the chord of the Rucki isn't that long to begin with; why would you want a saber grind? It would be heavier, and wouldn't cut as well as the full grind.

ETA: Don't take the "short" reply personally. They're busy, and she likely just stated that they don't do that as an option. Furthering the reply takes time, again costing money. FWIW, you're typically better off calling them for these types of questions, especially if you want an explanation to go with the answer. It's much faster than pecking out an answer on a keyboard. ;)

LadyEarth, Please send me a PM with what your boyfriend is looking for exactly and I will see what we can do.

I will tell you that the Rucki is a convex saber grind. The primary grind is blended into the saber grind for a smooth transition.

It looks better. The rucki as it is now is just formless blade with not much character outside of the handle itself. While your reason makes sense, I still find it odd that they wont do it while calling themselves a custom shop AND has produced wild looking blades in the past far beyond what they would normally do. Also, they have been known for making "one-off" busse/swamp rat products in the past. It's a good attempt at reasoning it out, SpyderPhreak, but I don't think it is the real reason.

Edit: We have a reason for not calling. Emailing is our preferred method. ;)

Thank you, Hindsight. I will talk with my BF when he gets home from work and let you know. He's out in the cornfield right now.

Edit: Tried telling him, my country boy, that patience has it's rewards. I am going to love rubbing it in. :p

No problem. Anytime you have a question feel free to shoot me an e-mail or PM.

Thank you Hindsight. Now that I know, I shall do that from now on instead of a thread. :)
