I am getting a titanium scale and back spacer done on a knife, I was wondering what’s the longest someone has waited for a knife maker to make them a scale and back spacer? I have been waiting since Halloween just seeing if that is typical wait time?

depends on the maker and their order process. I have had waits as long as 6 months and as short as 2 weeks. If you are getting antsy reach out and politely ask for an update.

I was told it would done early next month, so that would of been around December first. Im on my 36th email with the maker.

Only ordered one set of custom scales to date, but I think the wait time was around 4-5 weeks or so in all. I'd go with the advice Rival gave and contact the maker asking for an update. It's alright to be frustrated, but coming across as overly upset gets neither party anywhere. Maybe reiterate to him that he was supposed to have had the project done two months ago and that you don't mind waiting a little bit, but two months is a bit longer than you would have liked.

Since the order was placed?
Allowing for discussion about the order, that's still an email every 3 days. I can't help but wonder about the content and tone.

The above notwithstanding, I have inquired about custom scales and been told as long as 5-6 months. For me, that's too long for scales - the knife would be set aside, and all but forgotten in that time. That said, I'm understanding that this might be secondary income; and that work, life, family, and sometimes even fun can take priority.
I understand your frustration, and hope you get your scale soon.

I have waited 9 months for a sheath, and longer for a scale and regrind.

Some of these folks have lives outside of the work they are doing for me, and I understand.

If I was in a hurry, I would not have ever sent the stuff off.

On the sheath, I think I sent two emails the entire time, and it was good - I just wanted to check and record that we still were waiting.

No biggie. 36 emails since November sounds like an annoying ex-girlfriend, I hope you don't mind my saying.

I hope it works out for you -

best
