Been searching hi and low for some custom scales for my Fallkniven S1X. I’ve tried a couple of times but each time I’ve failed miserably. Can anyone suggest a good option?

Aren't they just 2 rubber plates held on with torx screws, why don't you make your own?
Seems like a real easy project to do.

I know that Fallkniven have been talking about scale options on the x series in the future, but so far nothing available from them or custom scales makers. Probably never will be either.

But make them your self, not a big deal. I have sold my s1x and my a1x, but if another s1x shows up here i will be making my own scales in stabilized wood.

I suppose I failed on my attempts due to lack of good equipment. I need a bench sander and a drill press. Sounds like a good project for the winter. Any suggestions for a good supplier on stabilized wood blanks? Thanks!

You might try browsing through the custom-services subforum:
the-custom-shop-services-offered.870

It's a lot easier to make scales for a fixed blade than a folder, so lots of people should be able to help.

The subforum is a bit out of date, but there are some good people there who can do your work.

For blanks, just google "Wood blanks for knives"

I really think you should give it a go. Who cares if it doesnt comes out perfect the first time?

Remeber to post pictures!

flemingwoodsupply on instagram for all your stabilized wood needs

You don't really need a belt sander or a drill press although they do make the job easier.
My first time I just used a Dremel and a hand drill.
Stabilized wood is easy to cut and sand, Micarta and pearlite are more difficult.
Take your time, measure twice and cut/drill once.

Arizonaironwood.com. They have an amazing collection of stabilized woods in every wood you'd want...numerous colors, sizes, thicknesses, burls, etc. I'm about to make some for my S1x. I have done numerous handle jobs on other knives and was going to use some stainless pins but decided I don't want to drill out the handle holes so I've sourced some Corby Bolts I'll use giving me an 8mm smooth pin finish inset into the wood. These Corby Bolt sets sometimes come with the countersink drill bit which I'm going to use. I'll set the depth on my drill press and make them even. I'm just not sure how deep I want to set them and will be using G10 or micarta liners for some thickness and added detail.
