Any one make custom scales for spydercos? Specifically the Tasman, I worry about that FRN... :(

Steve Ketchen does great work, but I'm not sure if he'd want to tackle a Tasman. I think finding someone to make scales for one is going to be tough. It involves cutting the knife apart so you can use the handle slabs and built in backspacer as patterns, then fabricating a replacement backspacer, scales, and possibly liners. It can be done, (STR, for one, use to do it) but it's going to be more complex, and thus more expensive, than just replacing the scales on a model with a separate backspacer and full liners.

Here's a Tasman Steve Rice (STR) did some years back...

I'd be interested in replacing the over-fancy, in my opinion, "gold thread" scales on my original version Szabo folder with some simple G-10 black or OD green scales. I love Szabo designs but always cringe a little when I look at the scales on my Spyderco. I wonder why Spyderco felt they had to pimp the scales when Szabo's own customs have plain no-nonsense scales.[as far as I know]
