Ive seen a lot of Busses around here that seem to have custom colored scales ie blaze orange, tiger stripe,red,yellow...where can these be had from and who will fix them on a blade for you? Are they only available from Busse? From what I understand the scales are set under something like 10,000 lbs of pressure. I know I cant do this myself. Somebody recently showed a pic of several SOW with all sorts of colors that apparently were not Busse "issue". Just curious who out there offers this service and what the options are.

These varying handle slab colors you are seeing have been coming out of the shop a little at a time usually for shows or ganzas. If you have a particular combo you are looking for, tell us what it is, we might have already seen it.

Ive always liked the olive drab/blaze orange combo reminiscent of USAF survival equipment. Id love to see a blade in olive with that type orange handle maybe in G-10. Anything like this out there?Any one that could reproduce this effect?

Something like this?

Kinda. That color scale w/o the black "swirlies" and an olive coated blade. I think I saw a GW recently here that had the blaze orange scales but it was satin.

I'm pretty sure Busse hasn't made a knife with OD blade and orange handle.
I really dought they ever will...but who knows

All kind of combo's come out at the Ganza's and the BCS. Just be patient and you will see plenty in the next year you will like.

If you must have that combo you could get an OD knife that you like(plenty out there) and have Busse put new scales on. This would take a long time.

Ban is a BF member that does good work with a quick turn around. If he can get the orange g-10 he could do it.

Ban you say? He also does convexing if I recall right? Does he have access to Busse scales?

Ban does great work but no one has access to Busse scales. Only Busse could do that.

Ban could shape the handles how ever you wanted them.

You may want to give the shop a call and ask about how long it would take, might take a while but you would have the combo you want.

I just got some new scales at the Busse shop. Took almost six months but the quality of work is sure worth every minute

Here's two

Garth also refinished the blade. Maybe that's why it took so long, but I am thrilled with the work

Those are really sweet. How did you choose the scales you wanted? Can I see a list of options somewhere.

I did not make that choice. I never would have made such a good choice especially since I never know what is available at any one time. I asked Garth at Busse to do his thing. The man's an artist of the first degree and I certainly trust him to do a better job than I ever could.

10,000 lbs ROFLMAO.

Actually they use a nuclear power plant that is specificaly designed for a press that only Jerry owns, and has the patent for!

There are several threads around that teach how to remove and replace scales. I think Wicked was the first to show us, Randucci and Ban have added to the knowledgebase. It can be done with a decent home vise.
