Custom sheath: Turnaround time?

I am wanting to get a custom leather sheath for my RC-4 that has both a firesteel loop and small pouch for a honing stone. I looked around for a production version, but the closest thing I found was the sharpshooter sheath which doesn't have the pouch for the stone. I was curious what I could expect for a turnaround time and who you guys and gals recommend as a good craftsman?

you'd have to contact the many High quality Leather sheath makers we have on BF, Lead time & cost both vary

Custom sheaths are like custom holsters, depends on maker, their shop size/amount of help, backlog, etc. Least I’ve waited on holsters was 2 weeks, most was 6 months.

It will also depend on if the sheath maker has the knife "in hand" or if you have to ship yours. Most will have it as the RC-4 is a popular knife. I can also add another vote for Martin Swinkles. He did a RC-3 sheath for me. He does 1st rate work and is great to deal with. Turn-around will depend on what you want in a sheath and the materials. I know Martin generally has a quicker turn-around for kydex than leather but you'll have to discuss that with him. My advice, look at lots of pictures of sheaths with features you want and really figure out what you want. It's a custom right? Even little things like what side the firesteel loop is on can make a difference. Best of luck!

edit: I see you want leather. Martin does leather over kydex, so you get the best of both:D

Yep, its best said above, your results will vary according to the makers back log. Mine varies from month to month, sometimes its two weeks, sometimes its two months depending on what you want. The stuff we stitch on our little Tippman BOSS manual stitcher gets out a little quicker as I dont have to sit and run every stitch by hand. I have to stitch pouches by hand though, so its a little skewed in that direction.

There's so many really good makers here that I am sure you will find one that will please you on most fronts. :)

Leatheman is being a bit shy....HE makes as good a sheath for that knife as you will ever see.
Just beware, it will have a Texas twang to it ....

The wait time for custom leather work can be a little frustrating. I've been waiting only a few weeks for one, and I know that I've got at least a few months to go. I really need to find something to occupy my mind. Like which ESEE knife I should buy...

You could occupy your time by trying to make your own leather sheath! :D

Or would that be too obvious?

I've been tossing that idea around, believe it or not. Especially considering the amount of $$ I spent on the custom... :o

no problem. I saw a lot or great things about him, here and on youtube, so I keep it handy. I'll need it
