I finished a Custom Shop Buck 110 with incredible petrified wood scales. This knife is a custom order for a member here on BladeForums. I haven't told the person their knife is done and I think I will hold off until tomorrow evening to see if they find out I posted pictures here first. :D

The person first saw the "sister" slabs to the ones I used on this knife on one in my album many months ago and "reserved" them for this knife.

It looks astonishing in hand as the pictures just do not do justice to the stone as it is translucent and you can see down into the layers of agate and opal. Yes, agate and opal. The white is opal and the darkest brown hard agate with a trasition through the stone from one silicate form agate, to another, opal.

The slabs were perfectly matched as you can see from the picture of the spine. It was hard to take photo's as the stone and polished metal act like a mirror.

Anyway, I thought this one was worth sharing and we shall see if the person who owns this knife finds this thread. :D

jb4570,

My signature line has a link to my web page which has a lot of knives showing what I do and even a tutorial and a tour of my shop. It also has a link to my email. I have INCREDIBLE jade as I have a barter trade arrangement with a jade dealer... I even have jadeite from Burma and Turkey which are pretty much no longer available. I have apple green jade that would make you drool.... In fact there are two Buck 110's on my site in apple green.

Have you ever made one with dinosaur poop?? I was telling Dave tonite THAT would be a different Buck for sure.....The stonework you do is the best I have ever looked at..Are you going to Alanta ?

Yes, I have used dino poop but most of it looks like SH--- ;) and it is not good enough to use on a knife....

No, I am not much for shows and I tend to go to the gem and mineral shows. For me, knives are more like the canvas to a painter.

I received this knife from Redrummd today, and I gotta tell you, the knife is even more spectacular in hand than in the photos. The workmanship is absolutely outstanding, especially when you consider the difficulty in working with stone as a handle material. I was initially attracted to the petrified wood because it kind of reminded me of the rattles at the non-business end of rattle snakes here, and I had always wanted one with handles made with rattle snake skin (I think Michael Prater does that). Bottom line here is if you want something a bit different with a stone handled knife, you just can't go wrong with Redrummd's work. Just don't drop it!!

When I first saw the pic's of that knife the first thought was, "Rattler". I'd like to humbly suggest that a sheath made with a rattler skin insert would look mighty jake.

Yeah the symetry of the ring lines of the left and right side cant be easy:eek:

More patience than I'd ever hope to have.
