Custom Shop Gladius: Convex or V Grind?

I'm getting myself a Gladius from the custom shop. Normally, I'd just call the custom shop to ask this kind of question, but with blade coming up, I figure it's best to just leave those folks alone for a bit.

So my next option is to ask you folks.

I'll be getting a black coated blade, and i'd like to know if the custom shop puts a convex edge on them standard, or if it's something i can request.

The other question is, SHOULD i... i prefer a convex edge on my cutting knives, but i haven't ever had anything like the gladius, so i don't know if i'd be better off with a V edge, or if a convex edge will be better as it seems to be with all my user knives.

Thanks guys!

It is a rather obtuse Convex edge, perhaps best suited to piercing shields and armor. I thinned mine considerably.

well, silly as this might sound, the gladius will become my primary SHTF blade. It will probably never be used for anything other than cutting air unless i find myself in a bug out situation

For that reason, i'd prefer the profile on the edge to be suitable for anything from people chopping to limb lopping.

Its just a matter of personal preference. I have used both and even though a convex edge is very practical, I still prefer a V edge.

I am sure if you put an order for a gladius the team will put w.e edge you want on it.

Having both for a shtf type of blade i would want a v-edge on this blade. I would ask em if they would thin ouut a nice v edge for u. U want to e able to strop it without a some machinery. The v edge u can stone it.

KH, thanks for that input. I will give it some thought. My normal sharpening is with a strop and compound (for rehoning). I have almost as much skill with a stone as i do with speaking russian.

Maybe now is the time to learn

Have them V edge it but thin, and with the edge shoulders convexed. More efficient effective edge angle without a hard geometry shift past the edge.

If you know how to sharpen a convex, I would go with that.

I convex all mine anyway. I love the ease of sharpening/maintaining convex edges.

you can make a field strop that weighs very little.

this reminds me of those old el paso taco commercials. soft! crispy! why not both? you have two edges on the thing to work with :p
