Custom shop ideas - gifts for retirees

The short is that I'd like to get a commemorative gift for each of two school teachers who aim to retire from the same district. I'm thinking custom and engraved cutlery for a few reasons: they have some land in a rural area, knives are banned by state law from their workplace, brass and blue dymalux perfectly match school colors. I'm just spitballing at this stage.

I'm asking here for some tips and experiences from those who have used Buck's custom shop online order form. For instance, and I'll probably reach out to Buck to ask this, but has anyone ever had an item custom engraved beyond the basic two choices of font? We know that what they can do on their production knives is all sorts of tampos and etching, etc. Based on Buck's custom shop options, I'd be further ahead to have someone else laser the blades for me. I'm thinking about mascot icons or the like.

The major draw toward Buck is that I know their products and warranty well. I'm also considering something bespoke from a custom maker. Part of it will come down to cost. Time is a lesser factor, as the earliest I'd need these gifts is June. Website says lead times are 6-8 weeks. But I wonder, now that the holiday rush is over, does Buck's shop see a lull or do they stay fairly busy?

Here are the two builds I've been playing with:
And, y'know, I mi'swell get something for myself while I'm there. ;)

And of course, I welcome pics of your custom shop knives. For inspiration.

Thank you

Nice.... I thought about a blue custom 113 for a long time, but went with oak (pic below from an old post). Just based on the research at the time, it looked like the blue wood color can vary greatly.

Personal preference, but I'd go with a 112. While I love how a 113 looks, but it rarely gets used or carried. I sorta have to purposely force myself to carry it or to find a use for it. Where as an 112 gets picked up A LOT.

Are the retirees knife people??
Hunters, outdoorsmen??
John 😎
Not to the extent we are. One is a casual hunter, who I think will pick it up more in retirement. They both like the outdoors, hiking, light camping, etc. There is talk of small time farming, gardening in those conversations about "winding down".
