Maybe you guys can give me some direction. I have a custom sho 110 with a partially serrated BG-42 blade. I've used it for deer hunting for 2 years and it needs to be sharpened. I've sent Leroy an e-mail but haven't gotten a reply yet. Would Buck do the sharpening or should I wait to hear from Leroy?

Have you considered a sharpener like the Lansky, or one of the rod & clamp system sharpeners??? It'll never be right unless you do it yourself... ;)

As a side note, I'm sure many here would appreciate a report on your experiences with the BG-42. If you've used it deer hunting for two seasons your information should be very helpful.

I agree with Mike on the BG42 and how it does on deer! Would love a field report.

And Trax is right on the sharpening.. Lansky has the clamp setup that is the best edge I get on a 110. And have the stones for the serrations.

But Buck will do it for you, I think for around 6-7 bucks. Check their web page. Should be something there.

My Custom Shop 110 works wonderfully for deer! Mine has the brass bolsters, no pins, finger groved, Sambar stag, and BG-42 partially serrated blade. The serrations are great for busting through the sternum and ribs. The knife is still very, very sharp but not like it was when I first got it 2 years ago. Also, I used it to clean a rabbit and ended up chipping the edge slightly about a year ago on a leg bone. I love BG-42 but it seams it might be a little brittle. As for the Lansky, I've tried it but the BG is so hard, it didn't do squat. I love Buck knives but I've heard enough negative things about them lately, both here and other places, that I'm not really sure about trusting them with my beloved knife. I have spoken to Leroy late last year regarding making a custom 110 for my 11 year old son for his first deer seaon this year but that fell through when my wife unexpectadely filed for divorce. On the up side, she left my son, the house, and all the vehicles to me. At any rate, Leroy indicated that he could sharpen it for me. I still have not heard back from him and am wondering if he is gone on vacation?
All in all, the BG-42 Buck 110 cannot be beat for a hunting knife. I'll be taking it to Texas on an archery hog/javelina hunt this February and I'm sure there will be deer cleaned by it this year. This knife, over the last 2 years, has field dressed and helped butcher 5 deer, without being sharpened!

Chris,
The diamond Lansky stones do a fine job on my BG-42 bladed custom 110. The upgraded steels such as s30v, BG-42, et al seem to be too hard for standard stones.
