Foolish questions, probably.

The custom shop will open again eventually, yea? Have they done this before?

Are scale swaps and sharpening services part of the CS and are on hold as well?

I do understand they are most busy, especially w/ the new line upcoming.

I have a couple of blades w/ G-10 id like to change out for micarta..are there any craftsmen on board who do this work? How much does/would it devalue the blade, if at all if not done by Busse? (not too concerned about this, but have to ask)

I meant to call Ohio on Fri and ask some of these questions..didnt get to it. Dont want to wait till Monday..(Ive called and reached my quota of stupid questions for the month, anyway)..as I may list the few I have for sale/trade this weekend, depending on the answers..

Thanks in advance.

The way I understand it, it is temporary (although will likely last many many months if not a year) and this does include any handle work including swaps.

It will be at least a year-my understanding in changing handle material, sharpening, re-coating blade finishes etc have all been suspended for a year because of the Backlog, this includes special orders, as far as handles go, you are better off just selling the ones you don't like, by the time you have them replaced you have another 100 bucks or so invested, and will not be able to get that back-good luck

We need an aftermarket Busse Spa to handle sharpening, stripping, polishing, handle swaps, etc. The demand is certainly there.

The problem with aftermarket work is that a good bit of it will understandably void your warranty.

there's a lot of ways to have them swap your handles without saying you want it swapped or changed. You can say it doesn't suit your needs, uncomfortable or warranty.

Two of those are not going to get them to change them out as it is still you just wanting a handle change. Warranty would be for broken or cracked handles and I am sure the warranty work on that would be swapping them out with the same ones that are already on it.

Aghhh..

figured as much. Had to ask.

Thanks for the replies and insight, fellas.

Appreciated.

Please clarify your position. Not to be difficult, but let's not scare all the new piglets.

As I understand the Busse warranty, it covers everything unless you have altered that part, and the alteration contributed to the failure.

If one has the scales changed by xxxxxxx, and later the edge chips, you are still covered.

If you have the edge reground to a V edge with a Sharpmaker, and then the G10 scales crack out in use, you are still covered.

If you regrind and thin the edge with a HF 1x30 grinder, like I do, and the edge fails ... well that's on you.

I would think that if you downgrade to micarta from g10 it will lessen any possible collector value. By the time you have the added expense, you would probably be further ahead to sell or trade for the knife you want....unless it is impossible to find.

That is exactly my understanding as well. I was getting at that a good bit of any aftermarket work would void the warranty at least on the part that was worked on. Should have clarified that a bit better.

Wait...How is it a downgrade if it's switched to a Micarta handle from a g10? The Micarta handle is more warm and grippy than a g10 handle.

Ive thought about that, probably true for the most part. Im in this hobby as an enthusiast, not so much as a collector. The few Im referring dont seem to be super rare, so not too worried about "Collector Value". Ultimately on knives I plan to keep and use, Im not over concerned about market value...I want the way I want them..and if costs a couple of bucks, Im ok w/ that. If I loose a little on the resale..Im cool w/ that too.

I have a SWAT w/ Blk and Tan, w/ liners and a NMFSH w/ Blk and Tan..Both sets of scales are beautiful...I just prefer Black mic (not going to mention Tigerhide or Snake, trying to keep it realistic) the look and feel. I wrapped the Swat in sports wrap (works great, no adhesive..and over G-10, no worries of damage/discolor to the scales). Will do this on the NMFSH, if I decide to start swinging it, just debating before I etch the logo and strip the coating..unless I decide to trade for, or sell for one w/ the scales I want...sending it to Ohio is no longer an option..not any time soon anyway.

I totally agree with you, however the G10 is a price upgrade (more expensive). I believe this is what he was referring to as a downgrade.
